Not expecting, not my kids, not friends kids, just have heard them in passing and thought either, I quite like that or OMG were you on crack...
so wise mumsnetters what are your opinions on...

there is plenty of space on my soap box.

I must admit,I find it simply ignorant when people just dismiss a name as chavvy, because it isn't a common brittish name...
considering that we live in such a diverse, multicultural society.....

Anyway, I am obviously a complete chav anyway, because my boys are Sven, Yannic and Flynn...but then, maybe I am not, because I am german and the first 2 names are very commonly used in germany....Flynn is just a sign of my "Home & Away" Appreciation

My Kid go to school in such a diverse environment, lots of polish, russian, croation, scottish, irish...(you name it it's there) influences...

I know. It's one of those surnames that have become first names. Apparently that's a bit of a trend right now. Or was in the States so is probably on its way here.

Fabrizia and Enzo are Italian names I think. Is Edie short for Edith? I'm not keen on unisex names like McKenzie. Can't think of anything else to say really.

3andnomore i agree and will put my soapbox next to yours but you said it all already!.made up names can be bit silly but i suppose all names come from somewhere.but names from different cultures are just that-names from different cultures!

it always surprises me that people are so quick to use the term chavvy when it's about unusual names...now, made up names...I can understand, but names like Enzo, Ylennia, etc...are quite obviously names from different cultures, mainly used by people from that culture...so hardly chavvy....grrrrrrrr....really winds me up this whole chavvy judgemental thing that people have going on...

Um ok, ben-ay was because her parents liked the sound of jonbenet's name but not its connotations and ylennia was pronounced yuh-len-nia but that might just be one set of parents interpretation iykwim! Getting some interesting responses LOL gotta agree with most of you, there's a few in there I quite like but I think a couple are goddamn awful

Ylennia - how do you pronouce it? Don't like it
Edie - short for Edith, which I do quite like
Flossie - quite pretty; short for Florence I think which I also quite like
Jolie - after Angelina
Jacobi - what is wrong with just Jacob, which is a perfectly nice real name after all
Mckenzie - this is a surname, not a first name IMO
Benaii - def not for me
Cydnie/Sydney - certainly don't like the spellings; Sidney is OK I guess for a boy but not my choice
Fabrizia - not for me; reminds me of Fabreeze clothes spray thing!

Only like Caspian, but I wouldn't actually call a child that. I had a friend called Flossie, but it wasa nickname (she had very frizzy hair).

Benaii/Sydney - mixed opinions

No to Onaissis (fat-looking magnate), Fabrizia(sounds like something in my cleaning cupboard) & Ylennia (irrational dislike of Y names, except Yogi Bear)
