Nevaeh

I need honest opinions on the name Neveah, the infamous heaven spelt backwards.

I like unusual names but nothing that looks completely made up. I also don't usually ask for anyone opinions of our childrens names as I believe as long as we like it that's all that matters.

We are struggling for a name for our girl and came across Nevaeh, I do like it and the meaning with it. We are religious but not as strongly as others may be.

Is it honestly a nice name or not.. I've seen comments over the years about it being a bit of a chavvy name.. don't really know why but I'm curious to see what people think. I think it's a lovely name but am apprehensive. We have others on our list so it's not our number 1 choice but I'm curious if others opinion of it.

Thanks!

I know of two, both born to single teen mums. One is known as Nev (as in Neville) as they pronounce it Nev Ay Ah
The other pronounce it more like Nay Vah Uh

Marellatea · 28/09/2022 13:41

I actually don’t mind it!

better than Ruth or Miriam.

Mummummummyyyy · 28/09/2022 13:39

Chavvy and tacky, sorry! How about Niamh/Neve/Neave instead?

eleanorsmellstrop · 28/09/2022 13:36

The sound is alright but it’s got a very chavvy vibe and reputation and it’s almost a bit of a joke name among certain groups (of snobs) because it just seems stupid that it’s been made up because it’s heaven spelled backwards. I like the sound but the fact it’s made up and got such a bad reputation means I’d never use it.

There was a baby born on our road called heaven spelled backwards. To a very young mum who also had an incredibly dated but fashionable name. As did HER mother. All of them bellow age 40. I gave them my old cot and travel system and cleaned it up for them. The baby was born and the travel system reappeared covered in poundshop stick on diamantés in the baby's name and fake YSL and channel logos . To this day I feel nothing but pity for the entire family. 4 generations living in one extremely shabby council house and the poor kid is filthy and incredibly badly behaved. I give them everything I can, old bedding, clothes for the kids, spare freezer food when I'm cleaning the freezer and cupboards out. But I will forever associate those names with filth, poverty and societies failure to prevent this from happening in the first place.

I prefer Lleh , nice ring to it

I think Miriam is beautiful and I know 3 Miriams and 2 Ruths in their 20s-30s but none older than that!

I know a very feisty 88 year old Miriam. She’s great. Ruth is a lovely name that deserves a revival.

UserError012345 · 28/09/2022 13:09

Yup, it's chavvy

Does anyone actually know anyone called this or is it an urban myth?

There seem to be quite a few of them

Not sure how relevant this is but I spent some time working in the child protection area, lots and lots with this name. I haven't come across it otherwise.

Bestcatmum · 28/09/2022 13:08

I like it but she's going to be called and spelt Nivea for the rest of her life.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/09/2022 13:07

Awful.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/09/2022 13:07

It’s horrible.

And people always say, “Neveah, it’s heaven spelled backwards.” because they feel the need to justify such horrible sounding name.

Just use Heaven. It’s fine. And sounds much nicer.

passport123 · 28/09/2022 13:03

Good luck finding a better name! It screams 'look at me, I think I'm really clever but actually I don't have an original thought in my head'

NalaNana · 28/09/2022 13:03

Awful, tacky name. How about Naamah? It's unusual and biblical (Old Testament)

NannyR · 28/09/2022 13:00

The whole "heaven backwards" thing makes it quite tacky, but it's actually quite a nice sounding name, maybe if it had a different spelling

LemonMuffins · 28/09/2022 13:00

It's crap. Choose something better.

Dragonskin · 28/09/2022 12:57

Awful name, I just feel sorry for the poor kids saddled with it

GrimmTales · 28/09/2022 12:56

It’s really ugly, both in sound and looks. And surely dated by now.

Cuppasoupmonster · 28/09/2022 12:55

LoveBluey · 28/09/2022 12:44

Whether you like it or not certain names have certain class connotations.

To avoid this I chose classic timeless names for my children that wouldn't immediately date or indicate class. I think it's important especially when meeting for the first time / applying for jobs etc.
My own name has some connotations which I'd prefer not to be lumbered with and if I could change it without offending my parents I would!

What is your profession?

Shlomping1234 · 28/09/2022 12:54

Terrible name! As you are religious, there's countless biblical or Saint's name to choose from!

courgettigreensadwater · 28/09/2022 12:54

@PlantDoctor haha. I think the OP has spelt it both ways. Once in the title and once in the first post. I laugh because I know someone with a daughter with this name and EVERY time I have to write it I have to check and double check. It does not flow.

courgettigreensadwater · 28/09/2022 12:52

LunaCrystal · 28/09/2022 11:52

Its used a lot where I live- very chavvy

Yep

Cheeselog · 28/09/2022 12:52

Cuppasoupmonster · 28/09/2022 12:42

They’re ugly and old fashioned
