Please Grin I have to ring someone (for work) with this lovely name but I’m not sure how to pronounce it properly Blush I’m thinking like Keira but don’t want to offend the person on the other side. Thank you

It's kee-ra, old Irish spelling of Ciara.

I'm Irish, one of my friends in school was called Ceire.

My school friend was Ceire too 🥰

KirstenBlest · 22/05/2024 13:07

@Connoc123 , your explanation took some unravelling.
Ceire pronounced 'Kaira' would be easier.

Connoc123 · 22/05/2024 12:46

Pretty is right but also pretty difficult🤣🤣🥰🥰

KirstenBlest · 22/05/2024 08:48

So it's Keire rhyming with Eire, sort of like Care-uh. Pretty.

Connoc123 · 22/05/2024 05:45

Yep thats it carera the best way to say Ceire 🥰🥰defo not serra i put up wit a lot of differnt ways and most say ciara but serra and sierra are a nooooo 😆😆

KirstenBlest · 21/05/2024 20:35

Connoc123 · 21/05/2024 20:26

Its carera thats how to say Ceire or if u say Eire the country but cerra its the best way🥰🥰

I'd say Carera as Cah-reh-ra and Cerra as Serra, and neither sound like the linked ones. Is it like Eire but with a K sound t the start?

TheChosenTwo · 21/05/2024 20:28

Good job I didn’t advise and you didn’t take the call in the end, I’d have gone with something that sounded a bit like Sierra!!

Like “Hi, it’s just from xx company - how do I pronounce your name?” Grin Just thought it would be a bit rude.

No, it will be refreshing.
"Looking forward to working with you and I want to make sure I pronounce your name correctly , could you tell me how?"

justasoul · 21/05/2024 16:54

oh I had forgotten about this thread 🫣 the call never happened and I never did find out. Thanks for everyone’s help though Flowers

Like this with a schwa at the end.
Unless it's a different language altogether.

My names Ceire but properly its Céire and its said like carera so care then ra together care ra

mogwa · 10/08/2022 11:39

I'd pronounce it just like Ciara/Keira unless corrected.

Luxa · 09/08/2022 18:54

www.howtopronounce.com/ceire

I'd have guessed Care-ah, Found this though, and it sounds more like Tzayer to me.

KatieL8 · 09/08/2022 18:30

Ciara (Keer-ah)

KirstenBlest · 09/08/2022 18:15

Ignore my suggestion then, I'm not irish and it was a guess

Skinnymalinksmalogenlegs · 09/08/2022 18:13

KirstenBlest · 09/08/2022 18:11

Isn't it like Eire but with a K before it? (approx. Care-uh)

justasoul · 09/08/2022 17:39

That sounds like a good idea, thank you Smile

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches I believe it is Irish.

I will speak to her tomorrow and I’ll report back - just in case anyone is curious.

I'm really curious!

abovedecknotbelow · 09/08/2022 17:45

Seer sort of,

justasoul · 09/08/2022 17:39

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/08/2022 17:23

My guess would be to pronounce it ‘keera’. Is their any way you can initially use their title and surname before checking the pronunciation? (‘Hi Dr. Smith, this is justasoul calling from X. How are you? Please can I check how you pronounce your first name?’)

That sounds like a good idea, thank you Smile

I've never seen it before but I'd guess it was meant to be Irish and guess it was pronounced kayra? Cei is usually a kay sound.

PokemonPasta · 09/08/2022 17:27

Sarah?

Joolsin · 09/08/2022 17:26

Oops, have just seen it ends in E, not A. In that case, I'd try Care-eh.

Joolsin · 09/08/2022 17:25

I've never seen this name before, perhaps it's a misspelling of Ciara. But I would pronounce it Care-ah, to rhyme with Sarah.
