Nn's occur naturally. I know a Clementine that we all call mouse. She/her family tried to use the nn Minnie which ended up being Minnie mouse and now she just goes by mouse. It feels weird when I hear her actual name now!

Sundaysunshine21 · 20/06/2024 23:20

I wouldn’t use the name if you hate Clemmie as she will likely get that from friends as soon as she starts school. You could try to impose some of the nns others have suggested:

Cee
CeeCee
Emmy

If you really hate Clemmie then don’t use Clementine. Sorry.

Clemmy of course. Nothing else

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2021 23:59

@Valaris

She will be Chlem. Then that will changed to Phlegm.

Kids are cruel.

Don’t be ridiculous. You could find something like this to say about any name.

I think she will end up Clem/ie, OP, so if you don’t like it then I’d find something else

Scarby9 · 16/12/2021 22:26

Darling (as in, 'O me darling, Clementine').

Flutterflybutterby · 16/12/2021 22:12

I know a Clementine, nn Minnie

tweetypi · 16/12/2021 21:20

@BadgeronaMoped we have a Clementine who is also a Clematron Grin
She is 3 and is pretty adamant that her name is Clementine though so not sure anyone else's nickname would stick. At home we also use Clem and Clem-Clem. Never Clemmie!

pompomsgalore · 16/12/2021 21:10

I think nicknames are given or are naturally created. People go for the obvious so maybe this isn't the name for you.

KirstenBlest · 16/12/2021 19:40

Satsuma
Tangerine

toastofthetown · 16/12/2021 19:39

Clemmy is the very obvious one. Even if you introduce something else (and everything suggested here is a pretty big stretch) she might want to go by Clem/Clemmy later and you will have no say over it.

JaneJeffer · 16/12/2021 19:35

Minty

cecinestpasunepipe · 16/12/2021 19:31

Satsuma Xmas Grin

BiscuitLover3679 · 16/12/2021 19:30

I quite like Tiny but I'm not sure if that's a good idea

Clem or Tina.

BiscuitLover3679 · 16/12/2021 19:29

@pompomsgalore

Why not Clemmy?

What about Clem?

I really don't like the sound of it. I also knew a horrible Clemmy (who never went by Clementine).

Clemmie is definitely the default, however Clementine does lend itself to more creative nicknames such as: The Clemminator, Clembo, Tiny, Emmental, Clemsie, Clemmett, Clembatron.

Probs the nicest of those is Clemsie, although I am partial to The Clembatron (my DC get sick of me and my "creative" nicknames). Not meant in a mean way Flowers it's a pretty name by itself.

RandomCatGenerator · 16/12/2021 19:15

It’s SUCH a gorgeous name but we decided against it for a girl precisely because of Clemmie which sounds like Clammy and feels like the obvious unavoidable nickname.

Or Tina which I also really don’t like - feels a bit 70s to me.

LesLavandes · 16/12/2021 19:13

Clemmie

blueflowersinthesnow · 16/12/2021 19:13

Tina?
Minty?

Not sure they're better than Clemmie though...
