Noah and Jonah

Afternoon all,

Recently heard the name Jonah and really like it! My biggest concern is my son is called Noah. Are Noah and Jonah too close for brothers?

The other name I like is Jacob.

Which do you prefer, Noah and Jonah or Noah and Jacob? And why?

Many thanks!

I love Jonah, it doesn't sound that nice "coupled" with Noah as it's not that contrasting, but I love both names so would just go for it! Jacob is nice too, and does contrast better, but would probably be shortened to Jake

I know siblings called Noah and Jonah. Sounds fine to me.

Noah and Jacob are great together. Noah and Jonah are both lovely but too similar together

Noah and Jacob sound much better as a sibset, if that matters. Noah and Jonah share practically the same dominant sounds -"oh" and "ah" - one after the other as pp's note.

Having said that, since your boys aren't twins (where having distinct individuality can be more important) - go for Jonah if you really love it. I have heard worse "matchy" names on siblings!

Other alternatives could be Jonas or Joel though?

Noah and Jonah are a bit samey for my tastes but I don't think it's a dreadful combo. I prefer Noah and Jacob but if you like Jonah more than Jacob, use Jonah.

Both lovely names, but I personally wouldn't use both. They are not just both biblical, but both biblical-nautical.

Noah and the arc.
Jonah and the whale.

Too much water!

Noah and Jacob

I think the shared o-a sounds are too similar and make them a bit of a mouthful together. Both nice names though. I think Jacob goes better alongside Noah

I think it’s the ah ending that sounds too similar for Noah & Jonah when said together. Noah and Jonas sounds better to me. I like Jacob too, although not keen on Jake or Jay which it might get shortened to. Maybe Joshua?

I prefer Noah and Jacob as I think they sound better together, Jonah is too similar. I might be a little biased though as the only Jonah I know is a complete pain.
