Ariana or Ariella?

Hi all,

I was hoping to get some honest opinions about these two names. I have seen on other threads that people associate Ariella with the washing powder, areolas and the mermaid, and they associate Ariana to the popstar, however besides these points, what do you honestly think of these names? Both names fit the background and I am big fan of the strong meanings. I like strong, feminine names. I don't see why an overly feminine name is seen as an insult these days! Being a strong woman means you can be whoever you want to be, girly or boyish! What are your thoughts?

@impatient2bmummy That's lovely! :) Glad to hear something nice about Ariella! I also think it's a beautiful name, sad to see negative comments about it. Does she get teased at all about her name? Its not very common at all, I have never come across an Ariella or an Ariana before. I think a name is carried by the person... If Ariella is an elegant, lovely little girl, I don't think anyone would think 'areola' or 'washing powder' at all?

I have an Ariella (Ari for short) in the family and she's the most beautiful princess ever- I think it's an absolutely lovely name and not very common as far as I'm aware?

Just because it’s a traditional name doesn’t mean I didn’t think it was made up. I only gave my opinion.

Ariella is Disney and areola to me. I don’t think it’s true about Ariella being a long established Hebrew name. It’s a cobbled together name using the male name Ariel (lion) with a Western -a ending to make it sound feminine to our ears.
Ariana is much better. Or Ariane - the French version is even better.

Ariella is very much not made up. It’s a popular Hebrew name and it’s my favourite name in the world but DH vetoed it. Just beautiful

I do like Aria as well for it's simplicity, does Aria or Ariana sound better to your ears?

Really don't like Ariella, it just seems a bit made up.
I like Ariana, definitely the better name.

Aria is also a nice name, similar to this style and sounding, but doesn't have the Ariana Grande link. I would also pronounce is more like Ah-ria than Ari-a, which I think is a bit sorter sounding.

Both lovely- didn't even think about the washing powder til you mentioned it! But l would associate Ariana with the singer, although she is a great singer so not a bad thing!

We considered Ariana for #1. I liked the nickname Ari 😊. I think it is a strong girls name stronger than Ariella for me.
