What does the name Candice suggest about a child's background/parents?

I went to school with a very polite MC girl called Candice, pronounced Candiss. She told me in 6th form it was actually Candeece, but everyone had always called her Candiss so it just stuck. I don't mind Candiss, but not a fan of Candeece.

Eileen is nice, so is Tara and Erin.
Bridget too.

Just realised this is from 2019

It's a porn stars name Grin
Several iirc. Go ahead she'll be really pleased with you.

I find it strange people on here bring up obscure porn stars that not many people have heard of as a reason not to use a name

And then go and name their kids “lily” or “Bonnie” 😂

ChocolateCinderToffee · 27/05/2026 22:04

I like it, but it's going to get shortened to 'Candy'.

rc22 · 27/05/2026 22:02

I think of Sarah-Louise Platt's teenage best friend in Coronation Street.

@Calliopespa, Why do people jump on to say old thread? Because you suggested other names (What about Camilla or Angelica?).

@Calliopespa , the writer is Candace Bushnell, and the thread is from June 2019.

I immediately thought either Candida, which has its obvious problems, or American - I think because of Candice Bushnell. For some reason it also makes me think of a clown.

It isn't awful though, if you say and think about how it sounds.

Very generally speaking, I am a fan of very staid names and feel that trying to find something unique or very unusual is not that great a look. It always suggests to me the parents expect exceptions to be made for their child. Candice, I guess, does at least have a track history of usage.

What about Camilla or Angelica?

@CosyBlueLurker , what prompted you to comment on a thread last posted on nearly 7 years ago?

user1492757084 · 26/05/2026 09:06

Candice is okay..
I would not use Candice due to me not liking the nick name, Candy.

CosyBlueLurker · 26/05/2026 06:29

@AverageMummy omg, its just a name lady, get a life and stop overreacting to it just because you don't like it.

BlueMerchant · 21/06/2019 20:04

American cheerleader

CassianAndor · 21/06/2019 20:01

Are you talking about class? I think it’s quite a classless name. I don’t really like it but it doesn’t say one thing or the other to me.

managedmis · 21/06/2019 19:59

Awful name

Aozora13 · 21/06/2019 19:58

It’s popular in South Africa. I have a friend called Candice (pronounced CAN-diss rather than can-DEES) and she’s ace so it now has v positive associations for me!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 21/06/2019 19:53

Stripper. Try hard. And Algren with others I guess the only way to say it is chav.

UnderTheTree · 21/06/2019 12:45

Yeah I thought Candice from Corrie, and she was a bimbo hairdresser from what I remember...

Honestly, very 90s and very American.

ch3rrycola · 21/06/2019 12:40

Stripper's name

PinkieTuscadero · 21/06/2019 12:25

The name makes me picture a breakfast TV weather presenter, or a QVC saleswoman. Perky and bit annoying. I'm not sure I'd make any assumptions about Candice's parents.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/06/2019 12:22

Parents: possibly American?

Name: bit sickly and naff. But not as bad as Satan.

BettyUnderswoob · 19/06/2019 19:09

It's spelt Candace, surely?

I think it's quite nice, actually, but agree with others that Candy is a sickly (but inevitable) NN

ClaraMatilda · 19/06/2019 12:59

I think of the dinner lady from Waterloo Road.

I quite like Candice as a name based on the sound, but would hate Candy as a nickname so would never use it.

Pinkmouse6 · 19/06/2019 12:53

Never met one but think it’s a popular stripper name in the US.
