Appreciate this style isn’t to everyone’s taste & ‘you won’t know what she’ll be like’ has been thrown around but then you don’t know if she’ll be sickly sweet when you call a little girl daisy? You may recognise me from the Connie or Frankie thread! Grin I still feel like I’m looking for that perfect cool name for our second little girl! Please give me all your amazing suggestions, you’ve all been so helpful so far!

Girls don’t have to be like boys, or called boys names to be cool, strong, assertive or whatever it is you are trying to achieve.

If your child is 'cool, tomboy, no frills' in their personality the name won't matter. It'll suit them whatever. Cool kids/ adults can pull it off.

The uncool kids are the ones that will struggle to pull off names like Scout etc.

Olivia - but maybe just ‘liv’ for short ? I know a beautiful girl called Olivia but she’s just liv or Livvy now which is perfect for her as she’s boisterous and very strong minded yet pretty as hell!

I had a friend at school called Daisy and because she was the only one I ever knew - the name just became synonymous with her own personality. Not sickly sweet in the slightest but very cool (in that not popular group way). Still super cool now & working in fashion.

Totally pointless info but people will tend to just have associations with names based on people they’ve known rather than plants*.

*Unless you are reading this and are the author of the post asking about the name Tree in which case this is an exception and people will definitely not think of humans but plants....

Please don't give a girl a name traditionally used for boys.
Teach her to be a strong, independent woman.
Not a pseudo boy.

Kedgeree · 20/02/2019 17:00

Yes to Vesper - I know a Vesper who's 9 and very kick-ass tomboy-ish.

I don't like frilly names either but I don't think you need to go to a boy's name to avoid frills.
