Appreciate this style isn’t to everyone’s taste & ‘you won’t know what she’ll be like’ has been thrown around but then you don’t know if she’ll be sickly sweet when you call a little girl daisy? You may recognise me from the Connie or Frankie thread! Grin I still feel like I’m looking for that perfect cool name for our second little girl! Please give me all your amazing suggestions, you’ve all been so helpful so far!

What about a name that could be either?

So maybe Leonora... Leo for short? Then dependant on her persoality she can use the longer version or the shorter version.

Failing that I really like
Erin
Merryn
Dorcas (there was a really cool girl at my school called this!)

Dale/Dayle

I agree Bertrand.
Leigh/Lee is unisex, but seems dated.
Lindsay was very popular for girls in my age group
Riley is very popular as a girl's name now.

I think it is unfair to give a girl a boy's name.

bsc · 20/02/2019 13:39

Eden and Morgan seem to be unisex these days.

Piper?
All the tomboys I know are called Anna (3 of them) or Sophie!

BertrandRussell · 20/02/2019 13:33

“names cannot be asexual, but they can be unisex”

They practically never are. Most “unisex” names are boys names girls use and which rapidly stop being boy’s names.

MikeUniformMike · 20/02/2019 13:28

lady doctor. ffs.

names cannot be asexual, but they can be unisex.

The lady doctored in Scrubs was called Elliot wasn't she? Not sure if it would be a different spelling.
I could never use it as one of my best friends is a (male) Elliot and would think it was all about him though lol.

I know or have known of: Toni, Bob (Roberta though I think), Billie, Jaq, Juda, Lou. They aren't my favourite names but I don't think they're "girly".
I think the way you see a name is quite influenced by people you know who have it so it's unlikely everyone would agree.

Morven, or Morvern, if she has a bit of Scots

“Audrey was once asexual“

Do you mean Aubrey?

And no it wasn’t. It was a boy’s name that started to be used for girls and was then dropped like a hot brick for boys. Because having a name even remotely associated with girls makes boys’ willies drop off. True fact.

RhymingRabbit · 20/02/2019 13:01

Yes all things girl are just fucking awful aren't they.

RiverTam · 20/02/2019 13:00

cross yes, no doubt (been there, done that, got the T shirt!) but having a deliberately obtuse name is just annoying. My dad spelt my middle name in an unusual (though accepted) way and I have spent a lifetime having to return official documents as they've gone for the usual spelling. It's just a pain in the arse. And that's just a middle name!

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 20/02/2019 12:59

Also there's nothing progressive about thinking girls are so uncool they need boys' names.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 20/02/2019 12:58

river Whatever you call your DC they will hate the name at some stage. Strange abbreviations pop up. My DD is called by her surname and DS has a nickname totally unrelated to his actual name.

OP give them three first names - they can pick the one they prefer later.

I do like the asexual names but even in those fashions change - John Wayne was Marion which sounds strange now, and Audrey was once asexual.

BlueMerchant · 20/02/2019 12:51

Coco is THE coolest name but also elegant and cosmopolitan to me. I would love a daughter called Coco and equally would love to be called it myself.
I've also just thought of another name I love-Dakota.

TatianaLarina · 20/02/2019 12:45

Why does a cool girl’s name have to be unisex or an adaption of a boy’s name?

Why are girls names associated with frills?

What’s wrong with being female?

BertrandRussell · 20/02/2019 12:44

And Coco is one of the frilliest girly names going........

LetsSplashMummy · 20/02/2019 12:44

I think short snappy names fit the bill:

Meg
Tess
Thea

Or nicknames like Kat, Lou, Bess, Nell...
