ANOTHER baby names thread - DH says he will abide by majority view

DH and I both have our fav names chosen. We like each other's choices but like our own more. We cannot decide whose choice to go with. If there is a clear majority for one of the names below DH says we should go with the majority.

So which do you prefer:

For a girl:
Anna
Matilda

For a boy:
Reuben
Samuel

i asked my neice (3) for her fav names this morning and got Nigel and Spacewoman... at least we have back-ups if the baby doesn't look like a Samuel, Anna, Reuben or Matilda...

fillyjonk · 08/06/2007 07:54

actually anna was no 50 last year and matilda no 69

so not THAT common

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/06/2007 07:16

Anna and Sam.

UCM · 08/06/2007 01:49

Anna is nice by the way. Very popular but nice.

UCM · 08/06/2007 01:49

No one ever called their child Matilda and didn't expect people to call them tilly.

UCM · 08/06/2007 01:48

Nooooooooooo go for something that is different.

If I was pushed over the edge it would be

Rubes and Anna

Pubes and Anna

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/06/2007 01:40

Don't go for Samuel. Within hours it will become 'Sam' which will just be really annoying.
Love Reuben, and Love Anna, but maybe make it annabel, so it could be both?
Don't like matilda at all, far too common these days, and she will end up being called 'mat' or 'hilda' (not good)

But if you are anything like me you will agonise over it, then come up with something totally different once you see the babies face!

nannyk · 08/06/2007 01:25

My nephew is called Samuel and my niece Matilda, both lovely names, and both gorgeous lil munchkins!

TwoIfBySea · 07/06/2007 22:08

Glad you aren't using Matilda as that is a name I would like if we ever had a dd and it is already becoming too popular!

Samuel wouldn't suit our surname but of the two boys names it is the nicer one so good choice.

Are you going to have second names?

hana · 07/06/2007 22:07

oh, am too late!
but i would vote for
reuben and matilda!

excellant names

MrsTulkinghorn · 07/06/2007 21:21

Right. That took a while because a few answers were ambiguous and lead to long debates between DH and I over who got to count them as being on their side .

But the results are one all.

Anna (my choice) 49
Matilda (DH's choice) 42
Reuben (my choice) 38
Samuel (DH's choice) 56

So now we have a plan... thanks everyone.

Right - I am finally back at a computer with DH who is itching to know who has won. I will start the count now and come back in a minute.

KristinaM · 07/06/2007 20:43

anna and samuel

TwoIfBySea · 07/06/2007 20:42

Matilda
Samuel

scorpio1 · 07/06/2007 19:50

Matilda

Reuben

funnypeculiar · 07/06/2007 19:33

I prefere Anna and Samuel - partly becuase I know a couple Reubens and three matilda's - think they aren't usual enough to be interesting any more iykwim.

But agree with others - wait and see the baby - my first choice of name for our daughter was over-ruled when DH pointed out she didn't look like an Amelie - he was quite right

StinkyPete · 07/06/2007 19:25

for a girl definitely anna
matilda is just to much that film with danny devito for me.
for a boy, i love reuben, but it is a bit more bold (fine if you can cope with that); I wanted it for ds but dh wouldn't go for it. samuel is lovely too.

notadmittedthistomyselfbefore · 07/06/2007 19:23

Anna or Samuel.

yaddayah · 07/06/2007 19:23

anna and samuel ..lovely

matilda .. all i can think of is Roald Dahl!
Reuben.. sorry its a bit "poncey" for me !

PinkTulips · 07/06/2007 18:56

Anna

Samuel
