I just came across this in the ONS data and was surprised how far down the list it was. Is it very very very posh? I quite like it...

Rafferty is a bit try hard wannabee. Posh people call their kids things like James or William.

Moresaltedcaramel · 02/05/2017 13:39

Definitely not posh

sleepyhead · 02/05/2017 13:37

I think Rafferty became popular as it wasn't posh. Same sort of boho set who went for names like Vince and Alfie because they thought they sounded all salt-of-the-earth and "real" (all nice names, not bashing them).

So it's "posh" by association with that group trying not to be posh.

Rafferty is a surname.
It appears in a song by Val Doonican, c1967 - 'Delaney's Donkey'. I believe Rafferty was the judge of the donkey race.

I wouldn't have initially thought so but I have a friend who is quite posh and he and his wife have just named their son Rafferty so maybe I'm wrong!

pepperpot99 · 02/05/2017 13:19
