Is John-Robert 'chavvy'?

Not "chavvy" at all, but hyphenating boys' names like that is something I've always associated with Irish Catholics. If that's not your background you might have to be prepared for people assuming it is.

I love both names separately so I think I'd go with the idea of giving him an extra middle name, leaving in both Robert and the other one you wanted.

I don't like the fact that it's hyphenated.

But I do like the names John and Robert. I also like the name John Robert, just like some people are called Mary Kate or Anna Beth etc...

And I like the nn Johnny :)!

'Chavvy' btw is an offensive term. No need for it at all.

Robert is chavvy. Hyphenated names in English are chavvy.

Oh bless, sorry you had critical views since he's already named but yes, John-Robert is weird and not very nice sounding. Drop the hyphen and add Robert as a second middle name.

Hyphenated names seem to be very fashionable at the moment. Lots and lots of them at school (especially in Nursery and KS1).

It's a fine name, but a little clumsy coming off the tongue. I wouldn't worry about changing it 'officially.' He'll chose his own name eventually, whether that is the long or abbreviated version.

I love Johnny though and would put either that or John on the amended BC.

Sorry but i don't like John-Robert,
And I do think it's chavvy. Why have 2 first names? Johnny is a much nicer name. I think John is probably a little old fashioned now for a 10 week old baby.

As an Irish Catholic, I have never met anyone with a name hyphenated like John-Robert. You'll get the occasional John Joe or Mary Ann among the much older generations, but it's hardly commonplace...

Why on earth would you change the name of your baby based on what faceless people behind screens are saying? Have the confidence in your own choices for goodness sake woman! If YOU are suddenly wavering because YOU and YOU alone aren't sure, then fine, go for it

But don't ask all the randoms on here because they love nothing more than pouring scorn on names that other folk have chosen.

Does it REALLY matter that Joanne in Aberdeen doesn't like your baby's name?!

Last year MNHQ were routinely deleting the C word. I don't know what's changed.

batfaced maybe people in "real life" are too considerate to talk openly to the OP about her DSs name - the name that he already has! I wouldn't be honest unless it was a very very close friend.

It is such a personal choice. Getting some objective anonymous feedback can be a catalyst to saying, fuck them, I like it or to having your doubts confirmed.

3- most people have not repeated the chav word or been snobby but have honestly said they don't like them together

Tearingoutmyhair, my son has Johnny on his birth certificate. As an athletic 6'2" 16 yr old, it suits him perfectly. Our friend, also named Johnny, is an educated and successful man of 50, who is well liked by all who meet him.

You almost sound angered by the thought of an adult Johnny! Confused

John is very cute. I recon you're ahead of trend. Violet and Alfie were popular last year and John type names will be fashionable again in 5 or so years.

I like John and Robert. Why not just call him John Robert? I have a male friend whose name was Douglas-Paul at birth, but his mum changed her mind and he has just been known as Douglas ever since.

I'm another one with a Johnny and that's on his birth certificate. I absolutely love it. Never met another so lovely to see there are some!
