Sad NN Johnny? It isn't, is it?

JR was John Ross. Equally awful.

Freedom2017 · 12/01/2017 19:36

Yes two middle names. Just take out the hyphen and you can call him John Robert if you like it.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 12/01/2017 19:37

2 middle names, perfectly normal.

Just remove the - , it's early enough not to be a big deal.

Aftertheraincomesthesun · 12/01/2017 19:42

Johnny is a fabulous name.

BertrandRussell · 12/01/2017 19:44

Just remove the hyphen. Sorted.

SuffolkBumkin · 12/01/2017 19:46

Chavvy is such a horrible word!

Sophronia · 12/01/2017 19:47

It's fine without the hyphen

Shockers · 12/01/2017 19:48

I'm really loving the Johnny love on this thread, as I have a Johnny! He is Johnny on his birth certificate, but also has two middle names!

Surreyblah · 12/01/2017 19:50

Yes, just remove hyphen and have two middle names.

JohnBob

MiniMaxi · 12/01/2017 19:50

Please don't do something just based on what the mumsnet horde say! If you have changed your mind, so be it. But if you still like it then who cares.

FWIW if you do want to change it I don't think there's anything wrong with removing the hyphen and have two middle names.

Also FWIW I don't think it's "chavvy" - it's two classic names hyphenated which is unusual I guess

KatherinaMinola · 12/01/2017 19:57

I know a Robert-John, which works better

I used to know one, TheWrath! It has to be the same one, surely? There can't be two Grin. I guess he'd be in his early fifties now.

OSETmum · 12/01/2017 20:05

I'd go with Johnny as his actual name.

cherrycrumblecustard · 12/01/2017 20:05

Makes me think of John Venables and Robert Thompson!

Manumission · 12/01/2017 20:12

What a horrible thing to say cherry.

They're both perfectly nice normal names.

cherrycrumblecustard · 12/01/2017 20:17

Oh I know, but together that's all. It's like if you had a boy and a girl and called them Fred and rose. Both fine on their own but together have connotations.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 12/01/2017 20:20

No need to change his name or drop Robert all together, just ditch the hyphen

Mouthfulofquiz · 12/01/2017 20:21

I actually really like it, and if you like it you shouldn't change it. He will probably just get called johnny anyway?

GingeryChocolatey · 12/01/2017 20:22

By change his name I mean legally Smile

Not Chavvy but sounds like someone from The Waltons.

GinIsIn · 12/01/2017 21:05

It is very 'The Waltons' - I would probably change it. Sorry!

LotsoNumbers · 12/01/2017 21:07

Hyphenating the names is becoming the mark of the chav I reckon. I'd just take the hyphen out

Jooni · 12/01/2017 21:18

I agree that it's better without the hyphen. You could even keep it as a double first if you liked, kind of like Mary Ann or John Paul.

However, I don't find John-Robert particularly chavvy. Agree that hyphenated names do often come across as such but John and Robert are not the usual sort of names that you see hyphenated in that way. Trying and failing not to sound snobby here, but in my experience it's usually XXXXy-Lee or XXXXy-Jay for boys.

MitzyLeFrouf · 12/01/2017 21:19

Ugh. What's with all the tedious 'chav' chat?

littlepinkmouseofsugar · 13/01/2017 09:21

John and Robert are lovely and classic, also under used these days. I'd possibly drop the hyphen to allow more flexibility in the future for him re what he decided he likes to be called.

Tearingoutmyhair · 13/01/2017 18:21

No idea whether or not it's chavvy but it is rather phonetically unsatisfying and clunky-sounding.

John is lovely on its own IMO.

As much as it's a sweet nickname, I would (personally) avoid putting Johnny (as opposed to John) on the birth certificate, purely because I think pet names in place of full names comes across as exceedingly naff and twee and I'm afraid screams to me (irrational as this undoubtedly is) that the parents have a blind unwillingness to accept that the child isn't going to be a little fat dribble-monster in a romper forever.
