Final two boys names

Our gorgeous little boy arrived on Wed and is still nameless - really need to make a decision! We're pretty much down to Arlo or Fox - which do you prefer and why?

My concern is that Arlo is about to become mega popular, though on a par with what I'm not sure...

I think the job interview thing isn't an issue. I worked in a large Law firm and honestly saw all sorts of names in top positions, and coming through trainee contracts, some unusual first names paired with amusing last names too. People also used quirky/cute family nicknames as their official work name and email address. No one bats an eyelid. There may be a bit of jobsworth snobbery encountered in some places, but in general, no, Arlo or Fox would have no problem for example in a legal career, how ridiculous. It's a bit parochial to think so IMO.

What has made Daisy or Rose popular names is just people liking and using them. Names don't have to have come from a bible or been around for 100 years in order to be used. The pp who mentioned seeing Fox on a cv is being quite insane and actually discriminating - you're saying that you'd be so rude as to ask someone to use another name, or perhaps not consider them in the first place?! Ridiculous.
Thanks again to those who have commented. Other names I'll list but it'll only confuse things more as I think generally people go for what they've heard and know.

Others are
Otis (I'd put this third but OH not sure)
Milo (OH not sure)
Rudy (OH doesn't like too much)
Arthur (v v popular)
Otto (slightly too Germanic with our surname)
Wilfred (doesn't suit)

We already have a little boy called Rafe, who, just to steal from another comment IS in fact an unutterably cool kid

Fwiw, I know quite a few little hipsters called Arlo. Tis almost at the point of passé in those circles. So I'd go for Fox.

First paragraph last post: Well said Op.... I reiterate my assertion your DS will Own his name whichever you choose!

Even taking into account your recent inclusions I would still choose Fox (can you tell it was in our top ten!?), although I do like Milo (which also made our list) and Rudy would sound cute (maybe too cute???) with Rafe.... Arthur, Definitely a bit 'popular' , Otto and Wilfred - not my bag.

What about Obie or Marley??

No to Fox as a first name. If I wanted to call baby Fox then I'd use it as a nickname only so he has a more adult name to use in serious situations.

Arlo is much better but definitely on the rise.

I'm surprised that anybody in London would pick Fox considering what menaces urban foxes. My kids used to get freaked out by the sound of them shagging annually.

Fox after Fox Mulder or Samantha Fox?

Hmm, having heard your ds's name, I think (and this is just my opinion and it may be silly) that Arlo as a name disappears a bit alongside Rafe ifyswim? I love Rafe, but don't find Arlo as strong-sounding next to it. I love Rex but think not with Rafe.

I think honestly though go with your gut feeling. Whatever you choose will feel perfect and untouchable as a choice within 48 hours of it being attached to your baby

I like both but think I actually prefer Arthur. Also someone mentioned Marley, which I think goes very well with Rafe. You might like Orson, or Bruno? Both mean Bear - I liked both. Actually come to think of it, we also had Wilfrid on the list but when our DS2 came out, he couldn't have looked less like a Wilfrid! We went with Gwilym, which will doubtless also raise the eyebrows of many a Daily Mail reader/people who've never left their county, but hey ho ;) We've actually had a lot of great comments on it and it REALLY suits our son.

Following on from my earlier comment, go with what you are happy with, some people will always dislike the names that you choose. We've had so many comments about why we would choose a popular but traditional name for our kids, didn't we want something that was a bit more unusual . I think as long as you are happy with your choice, then go for it.

Quite intrigued by the use of Badger - clearly been out of SW London for too long!

Arlo Guthrie, Fox Mulder ... I love them both! I briefly considered calling my 1st boy Fox ... but didn't because I didn't want to make things complicated for him (we live in a country where English is not the main language but I don't know if that would have made it sound better or worse..) with hindsight I think he would have been fine though.
