Do you like this as a girls' name, or is it to out there?

I quite like Madeleine but I don't like Madison.

I don't mind being told it isn't a good idea but I do mind being told I'm winding people up!

Permanently, that's why I like it - because it has Maddie as a nickname which is far more common.

Only, so you keep saying - Maddie or Maddy seem logical enough short forms of Madrigal.

You've totally missed my point though. You might use Maddie as a nickname but official documents won't. The electoral register won't and her driving licence and passport won't.

I don't think Operetta is really any worse than Jamesetta (like Etta James) as the long form of Etta tbh...

Having said that, I wouldn't use that or Madrigal, although they do both sound quite pretty. My DSis liked 'Neoprene' as a name for years!

Jamesetta, unattractive as it is, actually has some foundation as a 'proper' name, rather than operetta, and madrigal, which do not.

I only threw in Operetta to demonstrate it would be as ludicrous as Madrigal and doesn't have a nic name as isn't a nic name.

I've done madrigals as part of my education... The word itself I consider extremely pretty, but as a name? The other name to go with it may be "Integral" nn Inty.

No, just another horrible pretentious made up name. A madrigal is a thing, not a name She wouldn't thank you for it. Remember it's her that will have to live with it, not you.

I've already agreed I won't use it, Rhonda, it's the accusation that it's so awful I must be winding people up that I was a bit Sad at.

I was in an exceptionally sensitive mood last night though :)

It wasn't that is was 'so awful' that you were on a wind up it ....was more that you actually seemed to believe the 'word' had a genuine nic name.
