Henry, James and... ??

DH and I are going round and round in circles and this may be the first baby in history to just remain nameless for ever..

We have Henry and James already.

Can't have William (clashes with surname)

I like George, Oliver or Arthur - DH hates them passionately.
He likes Charlie but I (irrationally?) hate Charles and cannot put a nickname on the BC (not negotiable)

We have ruled out Archie, Edward, Andrew, Albert...

The only one we don't dislike is Alexander. Can't face naming a baby a name just because we don't dislike it. I'd like to find a name that we like (maybe even love!)

I seem to really only like "royal" names.. ie "Jacob" "Joshua" "Noah" etc just don't cut it. I feel so picky but so dull. can't help it!

So if you had a gun to your head and had to name Henry and James' brother... what would you pick?

Probably good you can't have William as he was Henry James' brother.

Andrew
Philip
Stephen
Edward (though also the Thomas link)
Edmund

What about looking to other Royal names e.g. Scotland - David, Edgar?

I can see your difficulty - Oliver or George are lovely and none of the above jump out at me! Yep, file for divorce!!

TheoriginalLEM · 20/09/2015 21:56

Harry?

FishWithABicycle · 20/09/2015 21:56

As you have 2 royal names already, your missing royal names (not already ruled out - Charles, Edward, George) are

Stephen
Richard
John

Fairenuff · 20/09/2015 21:59

James

Fairenuff · 20/09/2015 22:01

Sorry, posted too soon. Meant to say James, who you already have, is a nice name to hear again, it's gone out of fasion recently but probably due a revival.

Maybe a similar (old fashioned but ready to come back) name?

Needafiltercoffee · 20/09/2015 22:04

Jonathan
David
Hamish

VictorJames · 20/09/2015 22:06

theoriginalLEM i assume (hope) that is a nod to the thread earlier where an OP wanted to have Henry and Harry as siblings Grin

NewLife4Me · 20/09/2015 22:16

Youarentkiddingme · 20/09/2015 22:21

My first thoughts were

Thomas
Matthew
George
Samuel
William
Oliver.

I'm not much help am I? Grin

Our DS is Henry. If this baby (DC3) is a boy, he will be George, Arthur or Edward.

Tuiles · 20/09/2015 22:38

Raife

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 20/09/2015 23:54

My best friend has a Henry, a William and a George.

She wanted James but can't use it with her DP's surname!

If you want something to go well with your other names then it has to be traditional and timeless, which does cut down your options a bit. The names I can think of that fit (which have probably all been mentioned already) are;

Samuel
Joseph
Daniel
Thomas
Matthew
George
Freddie/Frederick

Possibly Max? Henry, James & Max sounds quite nice.

Wearyheadedlady · 21/09/2015 01:53

PETER !!

CheerfulYank · 21/09/2015 02:03

Peter would be nice. I love Peter but can't use it here in the States for the same reason you can't use Willy there Wink

I thought Thomas as well but see what you mean about the names. :)

I have a Samuel, Margaret, and William. Is Samuel any good?

CheerfulYank · 21/09/2015 02:05

Robert is good too, as someone mentions :) It's my Samuel's middle name.

Monty? Maxwell? Rex? (Can't get more kingly than that!)

CheerfulYank · 21/09/2015 02:18

John
Frederick
Walter (actually love that)
Elliott
Christopher

I can neither confirm nor deny that I'm just reading a list if Austen characters :o

VB111 · 21/09/2015 13:12

I really think Thomas is perfect with your sibset. You could use Tom as the day to day to avoid the tank engine link, but then again, it doesn't matter if people make the connection as your boys will love it I'm sure and it will only matter for a few of the early years anyway.

amyboo · 22/09/2015 08:27

Matthew? Goes quite well with both names (Henry is my other DS and James is DS1's middle name!) or Thomas?

Wishful80smontage · 22/09/2015 08:38

Henry and James are on my short list other names I like:
Arthur
Albert
Edward
Charles (but I don't like Charlie)
Gregory
Alistair
Andrew

Cherryblossomsinspring · 22/09/2015 16:52

I think Peter would be a lovely addition.

Sandsnake · 22/09/2015 18:27

Rufus? Nickname for William II. Possibly not quite so 'classic' as Henry and James though (which I think are both great names btw!)

Flumplet · 22/09/2015 18:38

How about David, Matthew, Samuel, Andrew?

Flumplet · 22/09/2015 18:39

Or Adam?

Flumplet · 22/09/2015 18:41

...or Thomas or Louis
