How did you choose your DCs' middle names?

My daughters middle name was my grannies first name, it's shirt and timeless. My sons middle name is the middle name of every man on my husbands side

Ds1 is Adam, because I fancied the actor who played Adam in 7 brides for 7 brothers (theatre production not Howard keele!!) when I was 16

Dd has my mothers name, chosen after my mum died before dd was conceived

Ds1 has a name from one of the Hairy McClary books

We decided on DD's middle name simply because we liked it and it went well with her first name.

dd's middle name is a name that runs through my side of the family (it is my mum's and my sister's name) - Elizabeth

ds's middle name runs through dh's side of the family (it was his dad's name and is dh's middle name) - Kenneth

Dd1 has random middle name chosen by DH + my name - following tradition as both DH and I have two middle names!

Dd2 has the name I had always said I would name a daughter - but wasn't allowed to use as first name for either….

Ds has a relative's name on my husband's side - this was supposed to be his first name but Dd1 refused to accept it as there was already Prince….. so we reversed names we had chosen (you cannot argue with a stroppy 4yo who was already well put out he wasn't the Eleanor Judith she had set her heart on!)

ds - first name is his paternal grandfather (family tradition) so for middle name we used his maternal grandfather. Only my dad's first name is Terry, so we used one of his middle names which is a bit more posh nicer.

dd1 middle name is my middle name, and my mum's middle name and my grandmother's first name.

dd2 has 2 middle names, one after the other grandmother (and also a dutch name) and the other one a family name I love.

I love the idea of linking the family names in, and my kids love the fact that they are named after their Grannies and great grandpa etc. But I wouldn't have done it for first names really and would only do it with names I like.

Dd has my mothers middle name.
Ds1 has my fathers name (which I wanted to be his first name but was overruled)
Ds2's middle name was given by my cousin who desperately wanted children but was suffering from terminal cancer. I thought it would give her something else to think about instead of the cancer whilst in hospital. She came up with a lovely name and was actually the first person other then me or dp to hold ds2.

Something meaningful to us that our offspring can go and claim as their own one day.
Oh, and family names around for yonks.

Very easy for us. DD has my late Nans first name as her middle name. DS has DH, FIL, FIL father etc.. middle name as his middle name.

DS has his maternal Grandfather's name as his middle name and DD has the same middle name as me.

mine don't have middle names, they are not compulsory.

DD's middle name was DH's grandma's name (also on our short list for her first name) and DS's middle name was DH's dad's name.

One was a Spanish name to reflect Spanish ancestry, one was a virtue that sounded too virtuous as a first name, and for DD2 it was a name we loved but thought was too near DD1's name to give her as a first name.

My DD has the female version of my DH's middle name (he was named after his DM and DGM as his DM thought he was a girl so rather than think of new names she just used the masculine versions .)

DS1 has a family name DH always wanted to use if he had a boy.

DS2 we thought might feel left out without also having a family name so we dug one up we liked.

DS's "middle" name us the one we actually use. His "first " name was one that went with his chosen name, they just sounded better that way round.

DD1 has my first middle name. DD2 has my grandmothers middle name which was her mother's name. It is also one of the top 10 and DH doesn't like it. However, since between DD1 and DD2 I spent about 10 weeks as an inpatient so I trumped his dislike (but refused to use his mum's names)

We just didn't have one for our kids because I have never - in my entire life - used mine, their dad does not have one, and their names are long enough that to saddle them with an official middle name for form filling in etc on top of their actual first and surnames (around 22 letters already) seems cruel.

dd1's middle name a name that all women on my side have.
dd2's middle name is dh's grandma's name who passed away.

Both dc's have middle names after my sister.

Her name (like) Roberta Louise

My dc's middle names are Robert and Louise.

DS, my great grandmothers maiden name and a name I love.

DD, both of dh's grandmothers had the same name so it was an obvious choice.

DD has the second choice name on our girls list as her MN. No family/friend connections.

DS (due end of the month) Ive no idea what to do as our list consists of one name, yet I feel daft not giving him a MN as DD has one.

It was our second choice for a first name and they seemed to fit well.

family names. really don't see the point in just picking random middle names, they never get used so picking something just coz you like it is a bit silly compared to picking something that links the baby further to family members IMO.
