How did you choose your DCs' middle names?

DS1's is DH's brother's name. DS2's (still in utero) will be my brother's name, which is also my favourite boys' name (aside from DS1's of course!) so that's a bit lucky

Not using it as a first name as it would just feel a bit strange, but works out quite nicely like this.

DS has my DH name which was also my Ddads name. Dd has my middle name which is also my Dmums middle name

Ds has my youngest brothers name. He died on the day I found out I was pregnant, in a road accident
He was 17
Dd doesn't have a middle name as I couldn't choose one that meant as much to me as ds'
Ds is now 25

DS1's middle name is the middle name of my DH, Dad and brother.

DS2's middle name is DH's first name. There's apparently a tradition in DH's family that second sons are named after their dad (DH was). I didn't want DS2 to have DH's name as his first name, so it's his middle name as a compromise.

Ds1's middle name is my grandad's first name. Ds2's middle name is my grandad's Middle name and dd's middle name is my nieces first name, she died at a few hours old and we used her name to, I guess, honour her.

I can't be the only one wondering what the Hairy Maclairy name is! Bottomly? Slinki? Scarface?

The DDs have two each, one from my mother's side of the family and one from my father's (we gave them DH's surname so I got to use the middle names to bring in my family). DS has two as well, but only one of them is a family name (we had a lot of that particular name on both sides of my family so I got a two for one deal...) and the other is our second choice of first name for him.

Ashwagandha, I am hoping against hope that it's Schnitzel, but if I were betting actual money I'd put it on Zachary...

My DD's MN is my DMMN and my DGMs name.
My DS's MN we just choose as we liked it and the way it goes with his first name and the initials it creates!
DH is still cross I veto'ed them having 2 MNs.

DS got my late father's name.

DD's middle name was given for DH's Mum, who died in her mid-50s. She didn't see her children marry or meet her grandchildren. DH's Dad remarried, a lovely woman, who was in our lives before the DC were born so she's been their Grandma from the start, and a brilliant one, but we did want to have Daddy's Mummy (as we refer to her) remembered in this way.

DS doesn't have one as we struggled enough to choose his first name!

I don't have a middle name so he's like me :)

We have two Generals and a Goddess (theme is essentially arse kicking Ancient Greeks, reflecting their Greek Cypriot heritage) - Alexander, Lysander and Athene (old form of name because it goes better with her first name)

I chose dd's middle name as it was always my favourite but my friend whose name it is said it is too popular (in fact it isn't now and would sound classy)

Dh chose ds' middle name for no real reason - maybe because it was the one choice I didn't object too.

We chose the two first names by consensus.

Both DC have two middle names. DD's first middle name is in tribute to the girl who set DP & it up and also happens to be the name of two public figures I admire for very different reasons. Her second middle name is linked to DM's name.
DS's second middle name is the same as all first born males have had in DP's family for generations. Just giving him that middle name would have meant he had the same initials as both DP and FIL which I thought was ridiculous so I insisted on another middle name. This name could be no more than 4 letters as otherwise DS' name would end up being ridiculously long. After scouring the baby names book, we chose a name which had initially appealed to me as it was the name of a great uncle of mine who'd always been really kind. When I told my gran, she burst into tears as, actually, it was the traditional family name but had died out with him, something I hadn't previously been aware of! Obviously, I never admitted this.

DS's middle names are his dad's and my grandad's.

DD1's middle names are just 2 names I love.

DD2's middle names are one we loved and then my Nana's maiden name.

DS has one middle name, chosen just because we liked it.

Next baby will probably be the same! There are no family names that I would potentially use to honour someone that I like enough to give to my child.

My middle name, our favourite flower and a saint's name from an important date for us and it has a lovely meaning. Different children!

DS1's first middle name was one we both liked anyway but also the name of a couple of relatives, which seems to be important to some people on DH's side of the family. His second middle name is FIL's name and was given to him on the understanding that our next child would have one of my parents' names as one of their middle names.

DS2's first middle name is my dad's name (which happens also to be one of those names that is very very common as a middle name) and second one was pretty much free choice, it was actually the real first name of one of my grandads (who died a long time before I was born) but he was never called by it.

I wanted DS middle name as his first name, then realised there was another boy with that name just a month older (small village) so used it as a middle name instead.

DS was (middle) named after my husband's late father.

Chose names we liked. We made a deliberate decision not to use family names or name the children after anyone.
