DH thinks the ending is problematic but I like the Shakespearean reference.

I reckon Barnabas/Barnaby nn Barney is a bit of a hidden gem.

everybody knows it/can say it/no spelling issues etc.

a classic

but not generally used

nice sound

nn Barney fits in rather nicely with all the Ronnie/Gerry/Denny stuff happening at the mo so he would be with the flow so to speak.

I know a grownup Benedick who insists on being called Ben. He said he hopes people will assume it's short for Benjamin.
