i think that's quite an obvious one tbh!! when i started reading i thought oh i thought it was just owen but it cant be

DS2 is called Eoin. That causes all sorts of problmes. We have to take him to the hospital later for an appointm,ent, and I bet they will call him Euan/Eeeon/Ian/Yan/Ee-oo-in.

We had Roisin (Ro-sheen) on our list for this one but when I wrote it down on the list DH then later asked why I had the name of a sauce down for baby's name (Hoi-sin?!!)

Funny thing was it was his suggestion in the first place LOL Think he got it from Osin (O-sheen), the boys name and hadn't seen it written!

Also love the names Peyton/Paigton/Paige/Niamph/Bride (Bree-ge, soften the "ge" to the way the french might pronounce the letter "G" and you're close!!) but DH doesn't want the poor thing growing up constantly having people ask how to pronounce her name (although Niamph is getting more common we don't know where we'll be in five years time LOL)

Guess it's hard but most people are willing to learn, although saying that my little bro spent his five years being called "Sean", his name is Shane, how can you not pronounce that properly if you are a teacher?!!!

Hi, My DS is called Kian and i always tell everyone who asks it's Ian with a K!
I loved the name as soon as i heard it( one of my fave boybands-Westlife, has a Kian)

I love some of these names. DH's family is Welsh and we've toyed with the idea of a Welsh name for our baby when it comes along. However, we live in London and it would have to be a name that is easily spelt/pronounced. I'd hate for the child to grow up with everyone misspelling and mispronouncing his/her name, and being forced to spell it for the rest of his/her life.

DH's cousin is called 'Siwan' (Welsh) - pronounced 'Shoe-an'.

I have a Roisin and an Eilidh. They are Scots, tho. Roisin was named for DH's maternal grandmother from Cork.

If we'd have a boy, he would have been a Ronan.

Have always wondered how you pronounce 'Anais'as in meg matthews' dd. Have never heard it pronounced. Pretty sure it's french.

LOVE some of the names on here, particularly Caoimhe. Have always loved Roisin, Mairead and Eilish- Eye-lish/ Aye-lish (have heard it pronounced both ways)

Hi yes it is pronounced Cara. Most people spell it like that when they find out her name but adding the gh on the end just changed the meaning.

Am trying to avoid a lot of the names already in DH's family (Roisin, Orla, Krona, Colm, Ronan, Cormac) but that does limit things a bit! I like Ciara so much (pronounced Keira as in Knightley) but DH disagrees. He likes Connor, but doesn't go well with his surname (Conway), as my friends wasted no time in telling me! Does it sound that bad?!

I liked Orla, but DH said it sounded like "Orca" and people would think it was a whale.
If DS2 was a girl he was going to be Eilidh.
I also liked Roisin, and Erin, but DH did 4 years in Belfast in the early 90's, and refused alot of the girls names i'd chosen.

So singyswife, how do you pronounce Caragh? is it Cara?

Hi, I liked mairead (mar-aid) when I was having my little girl but my dh said "it wasnt a name". Ended up with Caragh.

Caoimhe, Aoife, Eilidh - all gorgeous names. I have relatives in Ireland with old names (Grainne, Maive, Niamh) but dh vetoed Irish names on the grounds that if he couldn't pronounce them, no-one else in England would be able to

So how is the name Mairead pronounced then? I would be inclined to say "mareed" but its probably wrong.
