Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I really dont think standing out has anything to do with a name TBH... Unless you call your child shitface or something.

spidermama · 28/07/2006 17:44

Same here Xav.
My name is very common. When I phone people up I say, 'Hi it's spidermama here' and they say, 'Oh hi, which spidermama? Sorry but I knows loads of spidermamas'.

ocd · 28/07/2006 17:43

aha well ny dh an my kdis ot some extent have unsusal names an i did hte "bacon aisle test"

shout it down the bacon aile of tesco and do peopel turn around
kids dot always want to stand out

Xavielli · 28/07/2006 17:42

Me either SM. Part of our reasoning in choosing the names we did was because me and my DP have very 'common' names and we get sick of someone shouting one of em in a shop (eg) and about 20 people turn around.

Our babies names suit OUR babies... not to everyones taste, so fair enough!

ocd · 28/07/2006 17:40

a lot of them do sound liek mills and boons names

ro porn star nnames

spidermama · 28/07/2006 17:39

Wabbit, I'm not sure people conciously want to place their children within society. I didn't.

For us we chose the names we love. They happen to be uncommon names. I know some people won't go with their heart on name choosing because they fear prejudice by others. It's not a fear I share.

wabbitt · 28/07/2006 03:12

This thread wouldn't be half so good to read if it wasn't for the likes of Cod and Nailpolish...

I like what spidermama had to say - (having a dd with an unusual name) but to add more, it is partly where we wish to place our children in society that makes us gun for one name and not another

My fave names are

Jemima
and
Conrad

for all of those who'd like to judge

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 02:40

Cooper I meant... oops

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 02:40

I have a Coope in my class at school. He was also in my class last year. He is one of the nicest kids I have met in all my years teaching.. so for me that's probably more important thatn what the meaning is.

Never actually found a meaning for the name before though. Coopers is a brand of beer here though.

I also like Amber and Regan for girls. I used to like Cameron too.. but now prefer Logan.

flutterbee · 27/07/2006 20:53

Annabelle and George for me

mmmmchocolate · 27/07/2006 20:51

coggy · 27/07/2006 17:30

When I was pg I wanted to call my ds Cameron which I still really like....

...then I looked in a name meaning book and it meant something like 'bent nose' and I went off it a bit!

kittywits · 27/07/2006 13:49

yes

bundle · 27/07/2006 13:43

isn't cooper someone who makes barrels?

WantAbabyNOW · 27/07/2006 13:42

I added the name Cooper for a boy and my fav girl name is Olivia.

I think kids with the same names have very similar personalities. I can honestly say I have never met a sweet, well adjusted Christopher/ Chris!
( Apologies to anyone who has named their son this, but you would have to agree he is probably mighty spirited!)

Am a teacher so couldnt name kids after anyone who has given me grief!
