What's the general opinion on the name Martine? I love it but my husband just keeps saying Martin every time I mention it!

This. Not a very nice name

zingally · 27/08/2024 17:17

I like it!

As a primary school teacher, I've never taught one. I'd perhaps slightly prefer Martina though, as I think it sounds slightly prettier/more feminine.

It's a dated French name IMO with negative associations - mcutcheon and also the French national front - Martine Le Pen.
Sorry.

@Martine17 , why did you reopen a thread from 11 years ago?
She's Marine not Martine.

All the Martines I know are in their late fifties/sixties, it just sounds middle-aged to me, sorry!

That is false I’m 31 and know plenty of young Martine’s

sydenham

The trouble with Marta is ... martyr

toffeelolly · 07/09/2013 10:21

Sorry but I hate the name.

sydenhamhiller · 07/09/2013 10:11

Afraid not keen. I did however want Marta for DC3 (sound of music anyone), as a version of Martha. But DH vetoed it. And Penelope. And most other names. It's amazing she has a name at all...
Good luck-- love the baby name stage!

I don't like it - a bit dated IMO.

PipkinsPal · 07/09/2013 08:32

I work with a Martine who is 51. She is fun, bubbly and a great person. The name really suits her. It's a name that will be suitable at all stages of life so go for it.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/09/2013 08:29
