I heard this name being called by one of the Mums at school this morning. I've heard of it, but haven't come across its use in RL before. What are your thoughts about it?

TIA!

Actually, my name is Eden, I'm female and I was born in the 60s. I knew another female Eden who was a couple of years older than me. I've never met a male Eden.

SavoyCabbage · 21/11/2012 06:28

There are three Edens at dd's school. All boys.

Harperseventy · 21/11/2012 06:09

It's a bit chavvy here and considered a bit 'Jeremy Kyle' sorry. Very overused.

SquealyB · 12/11/2012 15:38

Also for the record - we are definitely not quinoa eating, cloth nappy, hippy parents to be..... not that there is anything wrong with any of these of couse, just not reflective of our demographic Smile

SquealyB · 12/11/2012 15:35

Our number 1 choice for baby girls' name (currently 29 weeks and don't know whether we are expecting a boy or a girl).

So I LOVE it Grin

DontmindifIdo · 11/11/2012 16:29

She'll get lots of smutty comments when she's older referencing her 'garden' by blokes who think they are being terribly original.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 11/11/2012 16:14

My friend's baby niece is called Eden and she's beautiful.

MrsHBaby3 · 11/11/2012 16:11

I dont think of hippy, I think of Christian, as in Garden of Eden.
I like it. I always thought it was a boys name, but have recently heard it for a girl and think it works quite nicely for her.

scottishmummy · 09/11/2012 17:51

I know an eden, female
it's a funky quinoa types name
bugaboo and cloth bummed kids

Ephiny · 09/11/2012 17:41

I like it. Have never come across one in real life, the only fictional one I can think of is a character in a Barbara Vine novel, where it's a nickname for Edith.

I think I like it better for a girl tbh, though it could work either way.

thegreylady · 08/11/2012 18:41

Reminds me of a dreadful child 'diva' on Toddlers and Tiaras [google Eden Wood]
There was a 60's pop star called Eden kane too [male] so I suppose it is unisex.
I know one [girl] in rl she is about 14 I think.

LetLoveRule · 08/11/2012 13:35

Getting surprisingly common round here - 2 boy Edens in my dd's class. Never heard it used for a girl before.

PurpleGentian · 08/11/2012 10:35

I know an adult male Eden - only Eden I've met.

He kept getting comments about the Garden of Eden or the River Eden just about every time he met someone new.

RustyBear · 08/11/2012 10:32

I know two Edens, both male; my BIL 's half-brother is 32, and one of DD's ex boyfriends is 23. I have never met a female Eden, except in a book.

SandyChick · 08/11/2012 10:23

I like it. I know a little girl called Eden.

amck5700 · 08/11/2012 10:21

Frikadellen I know where you are coming from with that - we moved and now my children are names after Roundabouts :(

Eden is a lovely name, I know two girls one 7 ish and the other 3.

Frikadellen · 07/11/2012 22:45

I absolutely adore the name and it was on our short list for dd3 thankfully we didnt use it as we now live in a town on the River Eden and the name is used a LOT you cant get away from it laughs. but oh I think it is beautiful

nkf · 06/11/2012 15:51

It's very trendy right now I'd say. I know of loads, both boys and girls.

lljkk · 06/11/2012 15:49

It screams Hippy to me. Harmless, but hippy.

WitchesTit · 06/11/2012 15:42

Wasnt there a 60's male singer named Eden Kane?

I think it's ok for a boy but for a girl there's too much baggage surrounding the whole story of the garden of Eden and Eve being made of Adams rib and that. Not a good name for a girl at all IMO.

gail734 · 06/11/2012 15:38

I went to school with a male Eden. He was gorgeous, so of course I think it's an excellent name!

AuntieStella · 06/11/2012 15:32

It's traditionally a boys name, and it's only been given to girls in the last 15-20 years.

So you will still get a lot of people assuming the DC is a boy, as adult Edens are men.

Are you OK with a unisex name?

Leeds2 · 06/11/2012 15:12

I know a female Eden (aged 11). I like it, but wouldn't even consider it for a boy.

AlphaBeta82 · 06/11/2012 15:11

Our ds is called Iden, which I always think is a slightly more masculine version of Eden. Obviously it is a name I love!

MolotovBomb · 06/11/2012 15:10

I didn't know that it could be a boy's name, too. I has assumed that it was a girl's-only name.

I like it; I picture it on little girls whose parents have hippy tendencies - similar to people who might call their daughters Summer, India or Savannah.

The family who have an Eden at my daughter's school do not fit the stereotype I had in my mind, though! Quite trendy types - not 'earthy' in the least.
