Came across this name the other day and can't imagine how it is spoken. Tylaaah? Tar-y-lar?

Shinyshoes1 · 31/07/2011 17:47

my ds1's middle name is TAYLOR Angry I'm far from Chavvy

usualsuspect · 31/07/2011 17:51

anything thats not an old man/ ladies name is seen as chavvy in MNland

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 17:54

Too right usual. If it isn't something like Araminta or Wilberforce it's 'downmarket'!

SoupDragon · 31/07/2011 17:56

No, anything that is made up and spelt creatively is "chavvy" in MN land.

SoupDragon · 31/07/2011 17:56

personally, I'd say that anything made up and spelt creatively is just plain shit.

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 17:57

Every name is made up though. How else would we get new names?

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 17:57

I'm not a fan of creative spelling by the way either, I'm just saying.

alowVera · 31/07/2011 17:59

Well that's my girls names thrown out of the window. Not spelt conventionally and slightly made up. ps, not Chavvy names I swear.

aliceliddell · 31/07/2011 18:00

It was a feeble attempt at sick humour. Sorry to those offended. I was going to comment that the word 'chav' and all the Vicki Pollard, Catherine Tate's Lauren etc all came out at the same time that 'the poor' were all seen as benefit scroungers and demonised. I've got more dislike of 'original' spellings actually.

activate · 31/07/2011 18:02

doomed

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 18:03

I'm not offended aliceliddell! I just think that saying that a name is 'made up' is stupid because all names arfe made up, they didn't just appear out of the ether Grin

SoupDragon · 31/07/2011 18:05

Taylor is not to my taste but [shrug] Tayla looks prettier, Taaylaa looks utterly daft. IMO. Unless it is your culture to put multiple double A combos in words.

Of course, if it turns out that it is, in fact, an name then there is nothing more to be said.

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 18:08

Spelling a name for example with a K instead of a C doesn't bother me, it's just deliberate and elaborate misspellings which look a bit silly. Like...I don't know, Olivia being spelt Ollyvier.

Nagini · 31/07/2011 19:36

We had a thread on this before. I love U-neek spellings.

My favourite was Typhane.

Tiffany. FFS.

No one was slating the name Taylor, just the desperate re-spelling of it.

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 19:40

I like the name Taylor. Spelt Taylor of course Wink

hadagutsfull · 31/07/2011 19:42

I've got a relative called Tayla Blush

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2011 20:44

Taylor isn't to my taste but it is a name. Taaylaa, on the other hand, is an explosion in the Alphabet Soup factory.

MamaLazarou · 01/08/2011 13:54

"OP, do you actually know these people? Or is it just a random name you saw written somewhere?"

It is the name of a friend-of-a-friend's daughter. It was the double 'a' that confused me. When I see 'aa', I imagine it as sounding like 'arr', but 'Tarr-y-laar' sounded a bit wrong.

OP posts:
mollymole · 01/08/2011 13:56

it is pronounced 'my parent(s) are twats'

hermionestranger · 01/08/2011 14:00

Going back to myleah would it be pronounced milia? As in milkspots.

FannyPriceless · 01/08/2011 14:23

There is a very simple explanation for this horror. When their daughter was born, the 'A' key on their keyboard was a bit sticky, and they have simply been too embarassed to admit this to anyone since.

EauRouge · 01/08/2011 18:04

"but 'Tarr-y-laar' sounded a bit wrong."

Unless they are pirates.

mathanxiety · 02/08/2011 16:03

Would Myleah be Miley? (by a huge stretch of the imagination)
Or Haelym spelled backwards?

Taaylaa is pronounced Tiaamii, right?

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 03/08/2011 05:48

I pronounce it to be fucking awful.

Bubbaluv · 03/08/2011 05:54

Like Taylor but with a very broad Australian accent. Think Irene from Home and Away calling Taylor across the playground.
