I think in most non-English countries Ruben is the most common form of the name.

This is worth considering if your ds ever travels or lives abroad. Ruben really is easy to pronounce in all languages (where Reuben isn't)/

I know a Rouben but assumed it was a mis-spelling. I'd go for Reuben.

I know an 11 year old Rueben - his paents wanted an unusual spelling - all its meant is they've spent the last 11 years spelling it out

Either Ruben or Reuben, but NOT Rueben (which is the plural of turnips in German )

Ruben is the accepted spelling in Spain, so if you're Spanish, then that's correct!

We also had it on our 'list'. Definitely Reuben if you're British. IMO Ruben just looks odd and like you don't know how to spell properly.

However as others have said, if you are Spanish then Ruben would be correct. Is your OH of Spanish origin? - otherwise, why is he so bothered about using the more 'alternative' spelling?

No he isn't Spanish, he thinks it looks wrong spelt Reuben as until we were looking at names he had only ever seen it written Ruben.

I am the opposite and have only ever known it spelt Reuben and after the responses on here it seems to suggest that most people would write Reuben if asked.

He will not be budged though and as I can't bear the thought of our son going through life constantly having to correct the spelling for everyone I fear we will not be having it as our name, which is a real shame as it's one of the few that I like!

It's Ruben all over Central and South America, and probably the predominant spelling in the US too thanks to Hispanic immigration. But I would spell it Reuben.

It depends where you/your ds may live longer term. In the UK Reuben is fine, but in most European countries (certainly Germany and Spain) and America Ruben would be much easier to live with.

Well we live in the UK always have done as have both our families obviously can't predict our son's future and yes he may end up abroad who knows?
