To think the French students are out of control?

ITVXsponsoredbyDominoes · Yesterday 19:53

Demonstrating against large class sizes is one thing.

Smashing up shop windows and looting goods is another.

Idiots. They are 14/15 and when they are arrested the French authorities will come down on them and their criminal records will stay with them forever. Where are the parents in all of this?

Woukd this happen in the UK?

Agree. Tbh, the sudden outrage amongst young people about class sizes and substitute teachers reminds me a bit of the Fridays for Future demos.

Some kids certainly felt passionate about it, but many just tagged along, happy about getting a day off school (until their hero Greta jumped onto the next cause).

Greta Thunberg’s ability to jump on band wagons is a marvel. She manages to turn any cause, however worthy or however bad, into a laughable circus.

I can't believe what they've done to Limoges.

"its disingenuous to claim no 'protestors' were involved and its 2 strictly seperate groups."

The rioters dress differently and arrive separately. It's not that a peaceful protestor suddenly starts looting a shop. Fighting with a police officer maybe, but you don't suddenly become a thief, do you?

Someone on here mentioned earlier that they actually knew someone in real life, a polite and seemingly sensible young man, who got carried away during the (2011?) riots and grabbed some shoes from a store that was being looted.
So yes, it can happen spontaneously.

"the sudden outrage amongst young people about class sizes and substitute teachers"

We protested about these kinds of education cuts 30 years ago when I was young.

Sure, that still doesn’t mean that everyone joining in is totally passionate about that particular cause, rather than wanting a day off school/ being dragged along by their parents/ wanting to be part of the group.

DuchesseChou · Today 11:01

I’m in France, drove through a riot last week actually on the way to collect my dc from school. There was definitely a group of youths walking towards the lycée at the end of classes compared to the students coming out of the school. So based on that I think the protests have been hijacked.

The French history of protesting is one of the reasons that the quality of life is so good here however, I completely disagree with burning down historic buildings.

I hope it all calms down, meanwhile life goes on as normal and I’m off to the local Sunday market now for my legumes!

What the Far Right are doing is weaponising the unrest, and using it to push the same old line that anything and everything is about immigration.

It is horse shoe theory in action: anti semitic and islamophobic conspiracy being pushed by the extremes and the protestors’ legitimate concerns being lost in the midst of it.

You can see it on this thread - posters in France are describing what they are actually seeing and experiencing and they are being shouted down and told they are wrong by people miles away, based on something on extremist influencers from one side or another have circulated online.

Yeah it’s quite chilling. Thanks to @Utahthecat and @AlicePottery and others for their informative posts.
i have been looking into it a bit more since.

They’re looting Louis Vuitton which is quite funny to me

Poor wee lambs are so used to weak governments. Then the do gooders overlook the violence and the arson. The cycle then repeats itself.

...which says this is more than just about poor education. BLM riots featured the same actions.

It’s interesting the push on not associating this with the left. Of course there’s peaceful students, I listened to an articulate recent French student earlier on the radio. He made a good case for investment which is lacking.

But people must be missing imagery and videos of looting and violence to think those two posts sum up the situation.

HeyThereDelila · Today 11:12

YANBU. It’s not protests, it’s riots and a hell of a lot of it is being driven by people who aren’t French. What a gift to Le Pen.

PammyPrang · Today 11:12

What kind of people cheer the burning of the Limoges building? Clearly those with no investment or affection for the country.

Same old same old with looting of smartphones and trainers.

Anyone applauding this has no morals; they are egging on crime. Like any protests, the genuinely concerned get left behind. All very well somebody saying the far right are hijacking this. What about it being the hard left that have created the conditions in the first place.

He was 17.

So, the poster referred to exactly that young person and asked 3 questions about parental responsibility. I answered one. You then responded also about parental responsibility and demanded I answer the other two questions. You now appear to be saying it has nothing do to with parental responsibility because the young person is 17.

Not interested in trying to discuss something with someone whose only aim is to win and who will bend everything that's said to further that aim.

Have a nice day.

People are losing sight of the fact that neither side are "winning" in this, just Russia laughing it's head off...

Is it Russia? Allegedly Trump was behind the scenes in Morocco.
Is it Trump? Is it Netanyahu? Is it Ursula the witch or the 1% mystical billionaire club? Or EU leaders.
The destabilisation of Europe is here. If Putin wanted to take over Europe he wouldn’t fill it up with mass immigration first. A lot of Russian people are racist. If the plan was to conquer Europe they wouldn’t fill it with fighting age, unskilled brown men. It doesn’t make sense.
Slovakia and Poland are being penalised for not accepting this.
Classrooms are overloaded, students aren’t learning with the overcapacity.

I felt really sad watching the fire. The destruction of a beautiful irreplaceable building built in the late 1800’s.

CypressGrove · Today 11:52

Far right/Far left are just the division lines Russia has been busy creating - these are just angry, poor, disenchanted people who have been told their "side" needs to step up - it is all Russia and people who feel pushed to it by social media misinformation for BOTH sides manipulated by Russia.

And now Greta Thunberg has been inserted into it.

Clearly the work of Camille and Jean-Jacques, two school children who just wanted smaller classes. It’s the obvious thing to do: torch the historic town hall while shouting about education provision. 🙄

Nothing to do with the far-left in France organising a violent attempt at breakdown in civic society, oh no.

All of the men running these countries are trying to destabilise the world for power. Israel and US are working together so will do whatever benefits them, Russia and China likewise. They all want to distract from personal failures and make their countries look stable in comparison.

Looting shops is ‘funny’ is it?
All a jolly wheeze while it happens to others, not so fucking amusing if you’re a shop worker / owner being attacked or an 80 year old couple caught up in it and robbed by feral scum.
How would you like to be caught up in it, maybe having a chimney pot thrown off a roof land on your head? Hilarious right?
The only funny thing I saw was two thugs getting flattened by a falling plate glass window they were trying to smash.

Did you see the horrifying images of the elderly couple stripped to their underwear?
I won't post the link as they've been degraded enough, but I've got it saved if anyone doesn't believe me.

Looking at TV it does look like the Left of centre politicians (mainly LFI) and their associated Syndicats (CGT etc) are digging their heels in on right to protest/awful police brutality.

I get the constitutional angle behind this but I'm not sure they seem to realise or worse still even care that they are probably handing next year's Presidential to the RN on plate
