to think eyebrows don’t NEED to be done

AIBU to think eyebrows don’t need to be ‘done’ beyond some plucking of the monobrow area or some general tidying if you have a lot of hairs?
I recently went to get my nails done for an event and the lady asked if I wanted to sort my eyebrows out too??

surely this is a recent phenomenon of perfect dark eyebrows forced upon women?

No one needs to do it, people can if they wish. Personal choice. You don’t get to decide what others can and cannot do with their own faces.

my brows are sparse so I fill them in. Your opinion on that is irrelevant to be honest,

They don't need to be plucked or tidied either - it's all personal choice.

I didn’t say I was deciding what people could do with their faces? I said I don’t think they NEED to be done

I dye mine. They’re naturally dark blonde but I dye my hair dark.

I’ve also started getting the odd gnarly grey eyebrow hairs which I evict immediately (they grown in overnight).

They don’t need to be done. But you are doing them by plucking. Personally as I’ve aged I feel better having them tinted and shaped. I don’t routinely wear makeup though.

She definitely wasn’t the owner, just a beauty therapist/nail technician in a larger salon

Of course they don't need to be done. No beauty treatment needs to be done. They are all personal choice. Is that not obvious?

Very little is actually 'needed' is it? Anything other that basic fuel to eat, a roof over our heads. Water to drink, a fire to keep warm. Basic clothing and shoes. A purpose in life like tilling the land, obtaining the fuel and food

Thats a long way away from that to going to an event (unnecessary), getting nails done for said event (unnecessary)

The point is moot.

you were there getting your nails done, so who are you to judge people getting their eyebrows done.

i do neither, btw. It’s not compulsory.

Of course not.
You could say the same about lots though?

I only get mine waxed, but thankfully don’t have any greys.

I think it’s bloody rude for her to ask though!

She was just upselling. It's not that deep. 🤷🏼‍♀️

As a PP said, none of it 'needs' to be done. Nails don't 'need' doing, either, beyond trimming for safety and hygiene. I'm a minimalist in terms of brows and nails. Saves me a lot of time and money, and no-one whose opinion I care about is bothered one way or the other. But we all have our 'things', and I spend more time and money on certain parts of my life than others do. I don't care if someone else wants to have their brows done professionally; I just don't want to be shamed (individually or as a group) for not caring about or seeing the value in it for myself.

My eyebrows are naturally blonde so I get them tinted and shaped. They fell out when I had chemo and my face looked odd so I got them microbladed, i.e. tattooed on.

I wear my nails bare so horses for courses I guess.

You're right. Nails don't need to be done either over & above trimming & keeping clean. Anything else is purely decorative.

People who work in that industry have an eye for unkempt brows, tache, nails etc because thats where their training is and it will stand out to them. The lady probably didnt mean to point out your brows were in need, she was just trying to assist in all things beauty.

Well no, they don’t NEED to be done in the same way your nails don’t NEED to be done - but lots of us do it anyway because it makes us feel better.

I was asked this in my 20s!!! I was slightly horrified but also knew it needed doing. Have had both waxed regularly ever since!

My elder sister plucked mine for me when I was 14, into the fashion (thin arched line) at the time (early 1970's).

They never ever grew back. Never plucked a single hair again.

Don't know if that's a blessing or a curse.
