To be secretly happy my least favourite colleague has been sacked?

They were rude, nasty, disrespectful and never really did the work they were meant to do. They’ve been sacked with immediate effect and I’ll never see them again.

AIBU to secretly be glad that the arrogant knob has finally faced some consequences for their actions?!

Just be glad that the process for sacking someone who is bad at their job and a bad colleague actually works. In many places it doesn't.

Assuming of course he was fairly sacked?

As far as personal satisfaction is concerned, obviously yes we'd all feel it but you can't admit stuff like that in real life.

Sometimes HR and management are quietly building a file in the background, especially as these people usually have form in the past and may well be targeting others at present too but it’s not obvious until those co-workers tell you. Mine has been targeting my coworker too, and I had no idea until they told me. You don’t know who might have reported it and it was enough for the company to do something. It’s actually rather beautiful! You and OP have a great weekend too! Yes I bet Monday will hit differently @iwonderwhyitearmyself 😁

Someone I once worked with was jailed for a very serious offence, I was delighted that they had finally been caught out and seen as the total fake they are

I was delighted when my bullying boss was fired. I said all the right things to HR when they informed me: will there be wider cuts, who will lead the team etc. but cackled and did a happy dance when I was by myself. The nasty woman deserved the sack and more.

ain't that the truth! I left a job due to being bullied by an utterly poisonous person who always had the manager's ear. I did so well in my new job that i was promoted and given a substantial pay rise. Meanwhile bully carried on with their horrible ways, picking on the person who got my old job until they made an attempt on their life. Then it all came crashing down for the bully and the manager finally faced up to how vile they were and then the whole organisation went to the wall. Took a few years and i did enjoy hearing about it on the grapevine.

Usually these types of knobheads are promoted out of the department in order for management to avoid having to tackle their behaviour. So yes, I think YANBU to be happy that your managers have actually dealt with a problem employee by providing a fair outcome.

I would be delighted. Horrible colleague got sacked almost 3 years ago now (felt she was untouchable, didn't do much work, ran hot and cold so there would usually be an atmosphere in the office) and I am still (silently) happy about it every day

Oooooh yes. I've had this happen. I had a small hand in it too (nothing major and not immediate, the final chop was totally down to them).

I revelled in it. Made my working life there infinitely nicer!

Oh my God, I remember the relief when the resident workplace bully was finally sacked

It felt like she was gonna be there forever…. she was only there for about nine months, but the amount of damage she did oh my God.

Tbh it’s so hard to sack someone now, even when they’re doing a terrible job. It is often as disheartening for an employer when you are often powerless to do anything about it.

Sounds like he was an utter knob. I’d be pleased too and I don’t think I would try to hide it that much.
You are almost certainly not the only colleague feeling like this.

That’s quite nasty. DH had a really awful colleague who was recently sacked with immediate effect but even he could feel some empathy for him as the guy had a family to support.

If people are kept in organisations when they are either lazy or unpleasant, it lowers morale for everyone else.

He was presumably exercising his free will while being a really awful colleague?
