AIBU to expect a refund after wee flavoured hotel bed?

AIBU (fully open to being told I am!) to expect my money back, under Premier Inn's 'Good night guarantee'?

I'd been on the bed a while before I noticed an unmistakeable smell - the previous guest had wet it! My warmth and the pressure of me lying on it had released the odour, which when I got up and pulled back the bedsheets was overpowering! No significant dampness to be fair, but my pajamas were contaminated. I immediately told reception and they were great, very apologetic, and moved me to another room. But I had to have a thorough shower (at 11pm) which woke me up, and I felt 'icky' all night even in the fresh bed, so didn't sleep well.

I asked for my money back and they refused, saying the issue was resolved by moving me to another room. I can see where they're coming from, but on the other hand I DIDN'T have a good night, because of an oversight on their part!! I'm disappointed in PI. I thought their customer service was better than that. I'm a fairly regular guest but I'll be thinking twice before booking with them in future!

What do you think?

They gave you a new bedroom so no you shouldn't have gotten a refund

DaisyChain505 · 22/09/2026 14:37

A flavour is for something you eat.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 22/09/2026 13:12

Am I weird for saying 'flavoured'? I mean a person can have coffee flavoured breath right, or a candle can be sandalwood flavoured? It's a way to describe scent as well as taste!

Anyway, a mixed bag of opinions here it seems! I already phoned customer services. They kept me waiting 10 minutes only to come back and tell me no-deal. I think it's unfair as it was down to their negligence that they put me in a pissy bed. They must have known from changing the sheets after the previous guest. I wouldn't expect a refund if my poor sleep had resulted from, say, food poisoning from a takeaway, or having had a row with my boyfriend, you know? It was feeling so grossed out, and having an in-depth shower which invigorated me in the middle of the night, which I wouldn't have needed to have if it hadn't been for the circumstances!

I would say a candle would be Sandalwood scented rather than flavour, a flavour is something you eat or drink I would have thought

Yikes! For some people the bar is very low, OP was given a piss soaked bed for goodness sake

But they gave her a new room though so why would she need a refund, she didn't sleep in the bed. there was an issue and they rectified it

Holeymoley28 · 22/09/2026 14:41

I pondered if op had infact licked the bed haha

But no you didn’t have a great nights sleep as you had a piss stinky bed.

So id email them.

Because if she hadn’t of had a pissy bed she would have fallen asleep when she intended to and not had the inconvenience of moving rooms.

That’s their incompetence for not noticing a piss soaked bed. So she didn’t have a good nights rest nor sleep.

Because, as has been said already, they offer a good night guarantee and having to deal with a pissy bed and move rooms late at night is not conducive to a good night.

The good night guarantee is if the guest’s issue couldn’t be resolved during the stay

It is pretty clear!

Yes but as soon as she made them aware of this she was given another room. I don't honestly think she has grounds for a full refund under their good nights sleep policy.

JibbIe · 22/09/2026 14:47

YANBU and in my experience Premier Inn do everything to wriggle out of the ‘guarantee’ - there’s always an exception to it!

I am afraid you are. Flavour is something you taste not something you smell.

BerryTwister · 22/09/2026 14:49

You should definitely get a refund OP. I'd continue complaining. The first person you speak to will always only have limited powers for compensate customers, but if you keep pushing up the levels you'll get someone who'll give you a refund. You have to be determined and tenacious but you'll get there. I've never failed. Eventually they get sick of you and give you money just to get rid!

I wouldn't say this was even anything to do with their guarantee tbh - her pyjamas stank of someone else's piss and she had to have her room changed in the middle of the night due to their not dealing with the issue when it happened. I'd expect some sort of compensation/refund regardless of what hotel I was staying in. (And for them to wash/replace my pyjamas...)

Agreed
hence I was specifically referring to the poster mentioned the Good night guarantee

I remember staying at a premier inn for work few years ago and I was only going to stay one night and then work me to stay another night.

I didn't know I was going to stay another night until the afternoon so I checked out of my hotel room thinking I wasn't coming back.

Anyway, when I realized I had to stay another night I rang them up and asked for the same room.

The following morning I noticed that the towel in the bathroom was the same towel but I had had the previous day as it had a mark on it.

It was obvious that they hadn't changed the towel and goodness knows how many times that towel had been used in the past.

I told reception and they gave me a complaints form to fill in. The manager replied to my complaint to say that they accept that they hadn't hadn't changed the towel.

I always take my own towels to hotels now as I don't want to get scabies.

Yes exactly. How come the person making the bed didn't notice more likely they didn't change the bed sheets like they didn't change the towel in my bedroom as I have detailed in my post above.

And left with a pair of piss soaked PJs? Someone else’s piss 🤢

You think that’s going to qualify for “a good nights sleep” s advertised by them?

@SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter straight onto their social media with this - accept nothing less than a full refund.

Ok fair enough about the PJs, maybe they need to replace those (or the monetary value of them)

I would type out a review and send it to their customer services, and tell them that you will be submitting the review on trip advisor/booking.com/their own website unless they have a change of heart - some might call it blackmail but its giving them a chance to rectify a situation. It is absolutely disgusting to be lying is the urine of another person, the cleaning staff had to have noticed and just said nothing!

Ive had a few sleepless nights in one of the big places in a big city ! motorbikes pop banging exhausts all night for 3 nights I went down and complained it's a known problem that no one is sorting but I didn't get a refund ! Never staying there ever again !
And this is my usual go to when spending time in the city !

TheFishFish · 22/09/2026 15:23

I wouldn't expect a refund. You raised the issue; they moved you to another room. What more could they have done? Asking for a refund is pretty cheeky as they provided the service you had paid for, after all.

You feeling "icky" after that is hardly within their control.

BeurialJimberley · 22/09/2026 15:26

Her pj’s were not ‘piss stained’, op has said there was no dampness at all. It can’t have been that bad if you’d been bloody laying on it a good while. You’re just angling for a free night. Couldn’t sleep because you felt icky, my arse.

MsGreying · 22/09/2026 15:26

I don't think you resolve the trauma of realising you've been lay in someone else's pee by moving to another room.
The whole packing and moving room is not what humans need at bedtime.
