Assuming he did say that it sounds more like a comment on the hysteria that overtook large numbers of the British public in the days after her death. His public behaviour at the time (which is all we can judge him on) does not align with what Earl Spencer claims.

I’m not a fan of the royals by any stretch, but one angry man’s word is hardly credible. Even if KC said it, it was 30 years ago in the throws of emotion, shock, provocation? Who the hell knows. A nasty move from Spencer but probably needs a few nuggets to sell his book. All very tabloid.
When my ex husband dies, hopefully before me, who knows what I might say in a private conversation. I hope I wouldn’t be held to account 30 years later.

What had Spencer been saying that preceded this alleged comment? He would have been highly emotional himself and could have been throwing all sorts at Charles who had reached the end of his limit and just wanted to shut him up. It’s one man’s word against another. None of us heard it or watched their body language as they spoke.
