Page 11 | To miss refined air travel?

It's great everyone can travel. I'm sure. But I grew up travelling in airport lounges and flight decks where people dressed for the occasion. I was in the Gatwick BA first class lounge this morning for a long weekend with DP and DC and goodness it was horrendous. Tracksuits, flipflops, everyone's guts hanging out, people stuffing packets of crisps into their bags as if famine was incoming. Am I awful to miss the days when non-economy air travel felt a bit like a luxury not an endurance?

I read somewhere only a few weeks ago that only 80% of the world's population has ever flown. I recently travelled on a train with a gentleman in his 40s that had never been out of London. He was shocked that there were "fields so close to London" In the 23 minutes it took to get to Reading he was beside himself with joy that he had seen real countryside. I encouraged him to head to the coast next as he has never seen the sea.

I am from what is now one of the most deprived estates in Scotland and even i judge those that travel in clothes that should be used for a night on the sofa. Any man going anywhere other than to play football in football shirt looks bloody awful and any fat bloke in a football shirt looks ridiculous.

Not everyone can afford to fly, even cattle class. Like us, not been on a plane since 2016.
Mind, by the sound of it we are not missing much, when I do return to flying it will be with the airport Wetherspoons crowd, clearly better than the first class going by the OP.

Or maybe a proportion of regular first or business passengers are generally well-dressed? For me, joggers and sweatshirts are for the gym, and nowhere else, although I change into comfortable clothes once I'm settled on board. And I travel business or first long haul, and have done for the last 30 years.
