Was with you until #11. My neighbour used to take her elderly, arthritic dog out in a pram so he could rest whenever he needed to. He still loved to be out on walks, but he couldn’t manage long stretches at a time.

I used to walk DDog in a doggie pram because he was 17 and I had a younger dog to walk at the same time. What’s wrong with that? He had nothing wrong with him, he was just old and couldn’t walk very far. He enjoyed getting out and getting sniffing around and it let me walk the other dog at the same time.

Why is that an issue for anyone else? Why do you care?

He was 17.5 when he died and he had a good long life.

I think some of the tiny dogs are better off in a pram in public.

I saw a tiny dog in a huge shopping centre quivering with fear whilst being walked by a young girl in a busy shop. All those long legs and big feet must have been terrifying for the dog.

I don't think it's most, but I think it's a lot more since COVID. Whether that's because dogs bought in covid didn't get socialised/ were bought by people who have no clue about dogs/ got anthropomorphised by their owners who couldn't see humans/ people have got more selfish since COVID, I don't know.

I was and am a good dog owner. I paid a fortune in his latter years for health checks and expensive food and medication for his dementia. He had a good and long life.

Just because he got tired on a long walk doesn’t mean I should have put him to sleep. He was just old.

He walked a bit, went in his pram a bit, walked a bit, sniffed a bit, back in the pram.

Dog owners are people, some some will be shit, or distracted, unwell etc. Not ideal, yes, but no more definitive evidence than statements about, for example, parents, cyclists, smokers, Audi drivers etc

I don’t disagree there are some cuntish owners but a small pool of 11 owners where 5 were good and 6 could have done better is not conclusive proof that ‘most’ are terrible.

At our local park where I used to walk my very well behaved Labrador it was a rarity to see an inconsiderate owner who didn’t put their lead on the dog around kids, didn’t pick up poo, let their dog approach everyone etc etc. So I think it depends on the areas

Yes there are terrible owners, as there are terrible drivers, terrible parents, terrible citizens of society. But I like to think most people are considerate and go about their day without being total morons

Anecdata: I was on a park bench earlier this week. I was quietly reading and not interacting with anyone, apart from maybe a glance up and a "morning" as people passed by.

During that time, probably 10 or so dogs passed. 5 or 6 or them (off-lead) came up to me and either physically jumped up at me or at least snuffled round looking for fuss or treats. A good few didn't even have their owners in sight due to bushes/trees. Only a couple walked straight past without bothering me.

I like dogs and I am not scared of them at all, but even I found this unacceptable. All the owners said was versions of "oh he's friendly!". My clean-on jeans had to go straight back in the wash basket when I got home, the muck was that noticeable.

I own more dogs than is sensible. I have owned many, many dogs over the last 40 years. I have been friends with/dated/married/socialised with dog owners over those 40 years.

I am not declaring myself an expert on dog owners however I would strongly declare that my 40 years experience carries more weight than your singular walk this morning.

I put it to you @Globules that what you actually mean is that people are stupid / self absorbed etc. I has nothing to do with dog ownership, and just to do with people.

Today, I have had a whole access road blocked by an inconsiderate car driver who could have parked two feet to the left and blocked nobody, by chose to park in the middle of said access road for reasons known only to them.

I had a group of cyclists stationary, having a chat, blocking 3/4 of the road.

In fact, I suspect dog owners who are useless actually have more of an excuse as they don't know what 'good' looks like. They think that Fido is trained, and that it is acceptable that he runs up to every other dog as he is 'friendly'. This isn't making excuses, just that I can forgive people for not knowing things they don't know, however obvious it seems to the rest of us. I can't forgive laziness, entitlement, and people being inconsiderate.

I always tuck my staffie away when walking on the pavement. She is always on the lead. And a harness! It would be nice if pedestrians acknowledged the courtesy. Just eye contact or a nod. Not just barging on through like I didn't exist or hadn't moved out of their way. Makes me want to charge on through. And dog owners get a bad name? I must sell the invisible potion i obviously wear online!
