AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

Anyone who would want this in their area must be crazy. That’s a huge amount of people to dump into one place, if I had a daughter I’d be seriously worried about what’s happening and the people of this country need to speak up and say we don’t want this.

We're still fine with that. It bring the quality of the areas up.

So I take it that you live in a deprived urban area?

Yes we go from deprived area to multicultural ghetto. Fabulous.

Looks like a hostel. But how basic it is has no bearing on whether its guests are free to roam around Piddington. Which is what worries Piddington. We are looking at cultures that never had the Enlightenment, see women as objects to be owned, and have a different view of in and out groups from ours. That is problematic.

Maybe the Home Office could look into a curfew system if it complies with UNHRC.

However, it seems Wethersfield/Braintree in Essex has had very low crime since the RAF site was turned into asylum seeker accommodation in 2023:

  • In September 2026, Rachel Nolan, Chief Constable of Essex Police, said that crime and incidents associated with the site were "very low" and that there was "absolutely no reason" for people to be concerned about criminality linked to residents of the site. [yahoo.com]
  • The Home Office states that the site has 24/7 security, CCTV, and ongoing coordination with police and local authorities to minimise impacts on the local community.

Crime linked to asylum centre very low, says chief

Rachel Nolan appears to distance herself from security plans drawn up by Essex County Council.

This was already posted recently on Mumsnet. Facebook is full of it ! People want armed guards and barbed wire around the place.

All I can say is there is a hotel a couple of streets away from me, near the high street, which housed people like the ones in question for a couple of years. Many of us never knew until there was a notice in the local paper that the people had been relocated and the hotel was back to business as usual.

During the time they were there, the 'boat people' were free to come and go as they pleased, a few of them found some casual, part time work, they caused no trouble and there was no increase in asb or crime.

There's no point worrying in advance, don't believe everything you read in the media and if there is a public protest, that is bound to stir up trouble.

Most of these folk will be relieved to be here and keep their heads down.

So they were breaking the law by working and not paying tax or national insurance whilst living in tax payer funded accommodation and being given free food and money and you think that this is a good thing?

They are not refugees nor true asylum seekers, they are infact economic migrants who have travelled through multiple safe countries before arriving in the UK.
Where would I house these men why thats simple id return them to their own countries on arrival so no asylum claims, no housing or free NHS treatment just take them off the boats check their id where possible with fingerprints etc and where not genetic ancestry and strontium isotope test and then fly them back to their country of origin.
The worst thing starmer did was revoke the immigration act that prevented these men from claiming asylum.

How do you know that they are not refugees or asylum seekers

and how exactly would you put them straight on a flight back to their country? Buy a fleet of planes and just leave them in the departure lounge until it's time

ludicrous

Go ahead. Close your borders. Surround yourselves with walls and barbed wire. Typecast anyone from a different culture. Live in your cosy bubble, uncaring about anyone else. But don't expect any help from the rest of us. Sort out your own schools, healthcare, power supplies, water etc..

Christ almighty. It's not actually legally binding it's just a way to put a spotlight on the problem.
I live about 10 miles from Linton on Ouse there is literally nothing there so they will be bussing hundreds of men to York and Harrogate to do god knows what. If these men are escaping to safety they should not have a problem being detained until they are processed.

I’d say there was an increase in crime if they were working because it would have been illegally 🤦‍♀️

Same here, I live in London, with a number of HMOs for asylum seekers nearby, I've never had an issue. No doubt there will be issues for some but I wouldn't be panicked by another one near me.

So you agree with reform then? Does that make you a far right bigot? If not, why not?

Does it make you a hard left bigot to disagree?

Mouldemort · 16/09/2026 11:09

sesquipedalian · 16/09/2026 10:21

@ Mouldemort -
The “vast majority” of them are really, really not genuine refugees. According to an article in the Times (Sept 6th this year), a whistleblower at the Home Office has said that “At best 1 per cent of asylum seekers are genuine. There’s almost no aspect of the asylum system that isn’t either a massive fraud or just really dysfunctional. Nothing works as it should.” He said “staff … feel unable to challenge even the most obviously false claims.” There are apparently “block applications” from Pakistanis purporting to be gay, for example. “ An undercover BBC investigation exposed a shadow industry of law firms and immigration advisers charging thousands of pounds to help asylum seekers lodge fake claims pretending to be gay.” There’s also the fact that it’s so much easier to process a successful claim than to reject someone. The whole system is rigged in the (economic) migrants’ favour, especially as most of them actually come on a student, visitor or work visa.

This convenient anonymous whistleblower is wrong or lying for a right-wing rag. It’s a completely unevidenced claim.

64% of asylum seekers are granted refugee status even though most of them are rejected at the first stage - entirely undermining your whistleblower’s claim.

You have conflated immigrants with asylum seekers. Asylum seekers don’t have visas. The government have made it much harder for international students and as result finances for tertiary education have collapsed.

This is sheer stupidity. Freshly qualified students educated here are an absolute boon for the economy.

The thing is, immigration is way down, small boat crossings are way down, but that will never satisfy the far right because it’s not about that - it’s just straightforward bigotry and racism.

Has crowborough reported any problems with their new residents?

Loads....I know people who live in Crowborough.....have a look at their FB sites.

They have been seen shi**ing and pissing outside peoples houses and on the verges outside the camp, signs showing not to piss or crap have had to be been put up around the perimeter fencing of the camp - all caught on door cameras.
When they're not being transported for free into Crawley town, they're wandering around Crowborough drinking alcohol.

We have them housed in hotels in my town and our local FB page has reported too many harassment incidents to mention......both men and women reporting these.

Oh and I work at our local secondary school and since 2020, we've had to send out over 10 emails/letters to parents following our students being approached/harassed/asking for money/trying to take phones/being followed etc. and recommending that our students walk to/from school in pairs especially our female students.........yeah, so going great...

Lifeomars · 16/09/2026 11:10

i live in a deprived inner city, we have two bail hostels, a massive custody suite that serves the whole city, and nearly 50% of the total of supported housing for homeless people with complex needs (drug/alchohol/mental health issues). We have high crime, a trip to the local supermarket often involves seeing crack being smoked round the back of the building, being approached by beggars, seeing drinkers fighting in the children's play park (nobody takes their kids on there due to the drunks) . We have had years and years of this, it barely makes the local press let alone the likes of the Mail because communities like mine have been treated as dumping grounds for decades. I have had my way blocked in the street by a group of pissed up (white British) males who pushed and shoved me. Pointless reporting it as nothing will be done.

LuckyHazelFox · 16/09/2026 11:10

It's up to Piddington to object, which they are doing. At least they are being proactive. Good for them. The whole country's watching now.

Ie if you were in Piddington would you say ok fine?

Contain4 · 16/09/2026 11:13

The leaflet you are referring to is irrelevant.

Even British born men have to have these things written down for them because apparently they don’t know how to act.

If you go to any school, college, university, prison, hospital, hotel, approved premise etc there will be written signs reminding men on how to behave.

Many places will have actually leaflets given out or things like sexual harassment policies in the workplace because British men don’t know how to behave (although funnily enough they don’t forget how to behave around other men).

However, I would not want 1000 men undocumented, documented, British, non-British etc to be housed near me.

I’m struggling to find the reasoning for it tbh.

1000 people trying to find jobs, needing a doctors, dentist etc is a lot for one small area.

I would also be concerned about attracting criminals to the area who try and exploit them (unless that’s why they want them all together to reduce this).

Why not just spread them out more across different areas.

I guess there’s a good reason for having them all together but not sure if it’s the right decision.

I feel like this forum has been targeted by Reform and all the right wing cronies who so far have failed to get the more intelligent gender on board with their rhetoric.

Hopefully Labour ministers will work on legislation to restrict anti immigration talking points on public platforms before it spreads amongst the lower classes.

This is quite annoying. Goodness knows I am no fan of Reform but people have to be able to talk about what they want on here.

I actually suspect the general population is more inclined to think the way the OP does than the population of MN.

I was the same for six years. It’s only in the past two months that there’s an issue. It could be a really bad mix of men. I don’t know and tbh im
so exhausted I don’t care. Between me and the asylum seekers ( so next door to me) is another HMO. Lovely guys no issues.

They will have a dedicated doctor and do not need to find jobs because they will move out of the accommodation once approved.

Internment camps with barbed wire and armed guards

I’m not even opposed to this. At least it’s a solution more than simply “not near me.”
