AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

They do record it in Scotland as admitted in an foi response its just not in the data that they release because the snp have banned them from doing so, much like they did with the number of men that they housed in women's jails.

I haven’t checked but ‘supposed to record’ and do record’ are very different in England so do you know if Police Scotland are actually compliant?

ETA I did quickly check and this is what the Scottish government say ‘arrest data by ethnicity is not routinely collected or published, and there is limited ethnicity data relating to court processes and outcomes.’

It sounds very much like “everyone welcome here” and then “when we said here, we didn’t mean actually here”.

Has crowborough reported any problems with their new residents?

I haven’t heard any updates recently but when the plan was first announced, apparently there was a huge increase in prospective home buyers cancelling viewings with estate agents in the area.

Hoardasurass · 16/09/2026 11:31

You mean airmen.
The raf had their own medics shops and facilities, they were gainfully employed, spoke the language and weretge same culture had access to vehicles and the raf police and comand structures to keep them in line so completely different from what is coming

Oh we're the RAF there too. As well as the RLC. Thanks for the correction

and no, I mean squaddies. The ones who are allowed off base

I imagine that’s the case nearly everywhere.

According to the foi yes they do record it rather than supposed to as its a mandatory field but as I said the snp government has classified it as special data so it cant be released. However theres a guy online who is using the foi system to get the info and has appealed to the information commissioner to get it released for sex offences in Glasgow due to the fact that 1 woman/girl reported being raped everyday (so there's number will be higher) in the city

Edited for autocorrect typo

Have you got a link? Worth investigating if you’ve two government sources saying conflicting things.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/09/2026 12:03

Where else do you want to put them?

Asylum seekers need to go somewhere, why not a facility specially adapted for them?

AlphaQueue · 16/09/2026 12:06

The "white men commit crime too" brigade will be in soon.

Contain4 · 16/09/2026 12:07

Except that men can come and go at will, which is not the case in an open prison (though of course some people do abscond from open prisons).

The men at open prisons can eventually leave for the day and then even the weekend.

Most work during the week and return to prison in the evenings and then some go home on weekends etc.

They’re eventually allowed to come and go as they please, as long as they sign in etc and follow their individual restrictions.

I know these men will have to sign in and out but I’m assuming they won’t have as harsh restrictions as prisoners as they’re not criminals.

Steady on, straying into an asylum seeker discussion with your facts and logic!

If you were in Piddington would 1000 plus men waiting for asylum be fine for you?

I’m well aware of how it works. Men leaving open prisons for work or other activities do so on a pre-agreed licence which sets out where they can go and for how long and any restrictions. They have a time to return and will be Unlawfully At Large if they don’t. That’s not the case for Bicester Garrison, where men are not detained and are therefore are free to come and go any time. They sign out and sign in but there are no restrictions on their movements, no curfew and no power to recall them if they don’t return.

Contain4 · 16/09/2026 12:13

EasternStandard · 16/09/2026 11:53

What restrictions are there? The last I saw was they had to take hi vis vests as in danger on roads without pavements, but they couldn’t be told not to leave.

What restrictions do you mean?

There are restrictions about them being allowed to work etc and they have to sign in and out.

They are not prisoners and so aren’t going to be treated as such but it sounds as though the general idea is very much similar to an open prison and so my mind has changed since the start of this thread.

It does make sense that they’d be housed all together and then after a certain period, they are moved on and dispersed more evenly around the country.

This is the apparent better alternative to them being in hostels/hotels which many people had an issue with.

This will have a better infrastructure and probably reduce a lot of the worries and issues that British people have.

No of course not because they’re not prisoners…

Clearly not on that last line. I’m not sure signing in and out is much of a restriction.

Exactly, so it’s not the same as an open prison in that distinct aspect.

They should be. They may not have broken international law, but by arriving the way they do, they have broken UK law. We also have absolutely no idea if they have a criminal background or not beyond that.

Absolutely. They complain about refugees being in hotels, so the government seeks to move them to a more secure environment. But that’s wrong as well. There’s no point arguing with Reform supporters, its like MAGA.

Great, arrest them all on arrival, charge and put them in prison awaiting trial. And then watch as the government has to release prisoners early to make space, and how trial dates push further and further into the future…

Are you sure that’s what you want?

NoisyViper · 16/09/2026 12:19

Rollingpinofdoom · 16/09/2026 09:45

So you agree with reform then? Does that make you a far right bigot? If not, why not?

No. Agreeing with some of Reform’s policies doesn’t automatically make someone a far-right bigot. People can support ideas without buying into every label attached to them

FriendlyMedusa · 16/09/2026 12:19

I don't think injecting a thousand outsiders into a small community, no matter how nice those outsiders are, is a great idea. And I'm a member of the tofu-eating wokerati.

But what is the answer to this situation?

NoisyViper · 16/09/2026 12:21

DebbieSavage · 16/09/2026 09:57

Sanitation, healthcare, tourism, leisure and entertainment. Basically all the jobs most Brits think they are too good to do.

I can guarantee these men will work hard for your community, but you just need to give them a chance instead of villifying them. Welcome them to your home, get to know them. Anyone can bond over a lovely cup of tea and a biscuit. The world isn't as scary as the right wing want you to believe.

Welcoming people and offering training is reasonable. Assuming young undocumented men will automatically fill care or sanitation roles and slot seamlessly into the community is a bigger leap. Integration works best when numbers, selection, and expectations are realistic, not when concerns are dismissed as right-wing scaremongering
