AIBU to think grapefruit is the perfect fruit?

Grapefruit is the perfect fruit.

  • perfect balance between sweet and sharp
  • can be eaten alone or added to salads
  • just looks nice (especially the pink ones) all jewel like
  • low calorie
  • rich in useful stuff - fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

OK - not so great if you are on statins, I will concede that.

AIBU or is grapefruit the bestest fruit ever?

No as it interacts with to many medications so half of us can't eat it. Stupid grapefruit

Gawd no it's sour as fuck! To me it's no sweeter than a lemon. And the flavour is kind of 'furry' to me? It's ok with tons of sugar but I'd never choose it.

It isn’t great if you are on ANY prescribed medication!! Not safe at all unfortunately to eat then.

I used to have one for my breakfast and one for my supper every day and loved it 🥰 and it it helped with my GORD too!

now on medication so it isn’t safe to eat anymore 😭

I used to love halving a grapefruit, dividing the sections, sprinkling with sugar and eating with a slightly pointed teaspoon so I could scrape the bits beside the skin. Or, failing that some tinned grapefruit and drinking the juice.

Alas, a distant memory due to multiple medications. I had a tiny portion in a hotel breakfast recently and it was lovely but really I shouldn't have ...

Try the yellow sunshine grapefruits currently in Sainsbury’s and M&S!!! Delicious - a mix between a regular grapefruit and an orange!

I can’t bear the bitterness. I also hate coffee and tonic water. I think there is something wrong with my bitterness taste buds. Bitter things taste like the sap in a dandelion stalk (which I don’t generally consume but did so accidentally as a child after picking dandelions, and that bitter flavour is just the same as what I taste in grapefruit, coffee and tonic).

I've always said that grapefruit feels like a joke I'm not in on. It's as annoying to prepare and eat as an orange but without any payoff because it tastes foul.

It truly tastes like vomit/stomach acid to me 🤢

No, the perfect fruit is a perfectly ripe British Victoria plum, picked on a dog walk on a sunny cold September morning.

grapefruit are nice, hard wearing fruit , willing to do a good stint of fruit bowl time without relinquishing any texture/ flavour but they are by no means the best. Plus, I like the mixed grapefruit salad in tins and that is my favourite tinned fruit except Tesco’s can’t recognise its own name for them so I cannot order them online.

According to Dr Alan Hirsch of the Chicago Smell And Taste Treatment And Research Institute, the aroma of pink grapefruit is rather interesting.

In a 2005 study, his researchers found that when men were shown photographs of women whilst smelling the scent of pink grapefruit, they guessed their age to be an average of six years younger it really was. Other aromas were tried too, including vanilla, cucumber, lavender and broccoli but only pink grapefruit had this effect.

It did not work for women smelling pink grapefruit when looking at pictures of men.

I remembered hearing about this a while ago, (probably on QI) but googled to be sure. So there. As far as I know, the research wasn't sponsored by Outspan. Today's daft semi scientific fact.

I was surprised that the broccoli smell wasn't more alluring. Maybe it's more niche in its appeal. It mainly smells of sulphur, I think, so perhaps for men who like their women a bit mediaeval witchy.

Tastes like vomit,who eats vomit! 30 years ago, I used to cut, little sugar all ready for Sunday morning when I come back home from the nursing night shift,DH and I enjoyed the grapefruit before walking the dogs
Too much faff, come on,I had 4 dks, countless animals and worked ft nights.On vaso dilators now, and grapefruit is not allowed.

I voted Unreasonable because you need a masters degree in mechanics to open them without either wasting it or cutting yourself.

I just peel them like oranges once I've cut the end off.
