She weighs 105lbs...

The film Angel Face - Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons 1952

During the start he is describing his girlfriend and mentions she is 105lbs

I thought I'd misheard and maybe it was 125lbs but no, 105lbs

Thats 7 and a half stone.

Seems very tiny but AI tells me that is the usual sort of frame and weight to height ratio for actresses in those days. The actress playing the girlfriend was 5'4 apparently. So slight frame but not underweight

I was a bit surprised it was so low a weight.

How can you possibly have looked desperately skinny at 8 st 13 with a tiny frame? I weigh much less than that (also with a very small frame) and do not look in any way skinny. I look slim, but I have a normal body fat percentage as measured by my mum's fancy scales, and have a normal amount of curves in the usual places. Are you very muscular (I am not)?

I'm 5'4" and don't have a tiny frame. I would be too heavy at 8st 13lbs. I'd not want to be 9st 12lb.
Why lug around an extra stone and a half when I don't have to?

Try 'A Hundred Pounds of Clay' which was a hit in 1961. This song did me a fair bit of damage, unfortunately.

Fuck me sideways, I just read the lyrics to that, what a pile of sexist, misogynist shite! My mum was a teenager in the early 60s and she definitely didn't weigh a hundred pounds - she loved chips and crisps too much! 🤣

i remember being 23 , 5 foot 4 and being horrified I was 9 stone( 80s) . I wish I could go back and tell myself I was fine

Wasn't Bridget Jones 9 stone and a few pounds? She had to be at least 5' 6" and was considered so fat that a whole film was made about it.

The whole point in the book is that she has pointless angst about her perfectly normal weight. There is one character in the book that bitches about her weight as a jab IIRC. When she does lose the weight her friends are concerned and also imply she looked better before - it's portrayed as a hollow victory.

This is twisted in the film to 'she's actually a bit chubby'

Yeah, I googled and the dimensions/weight etc don’t seem to reflect her reported real height/weight etc.

Possibly yes, actresses’ measurements were often fudged by their agent/PR to make them sound more desirable back in the 1950s-60s. Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield’s agents exaggerated their measurements.
