AIBU to say 6:30am isn’t the middle of the night?

Little backstory:

We have two children (4 and 4 months), I breastfeed so wake up with the baby but he’s a good sleeper and usually wakes up once around 4/5am. At the weekend my husband and I take turns having a lie in and getting up with the kids - in my eyes a lie in should be an hour ish so that we can still spend time together and do the morning dog walk

Yesterday I woke up at 6 to feed the baby and then went downstairs with them both around 6:20. Baby’s routine is having first nap on the dog walk 2 (ish) hours after waking. Husband is still asleep at 8:20 so I’m trying to get dressed and get kids sorted without waking him, but am also a bit annoyed as he will be out from 10am all day, so kids won’t see him

He wakes up and quickly gets dressed to come on the dog walk and then is out at the football from 10:30 - 3:30, he then gets home and says he’s popping to the pub as it’s his friends dads birthday. He comes back at about 6 and we do bedtime together - not really relevant but just that he’s not seen the kids much today and he usually does either football or cricket one day a weekend so we only have one family day

My 4 year old hasn’t been very well, very lethargic and doesn’t want to eat. This morning he comes in at 6:20 saying he’s thirsty and wants milk. Husband says we don’t get drinks in the middle of the night and that he can only have water. 4YO is crying more and more as he wants milk (probably hungry after not eating much). The baby then wakes up happily babbling.

I say it’s probably best to just wake up now as it’s usual wake up time anyway and he’s poorly etc. husband is trying to get him back to sleep - he’s not going to go as it’s 6:30 and he’s just getting more upset, so I go into the room and husband starts shooing me away and saying I give in to every little whim (I don’t, I’m usually the one disciplining/carrying out consequences). I said I’ll just wake up with them then. He calls me a martyr and starts telling me to fuck off and that I’m being fucking ridiculous etc. I feel like he just doesn’t want to wake up early with them even after hardly seeing them yesterday

AIBU to say 6:30am isn’t the middle of the night and our ill child should be allowed to have a glass of milk!?

When someone posts something as concerning and denigrating as you… hell yes I’m going to look at the background

and sure enough in your case…

Why for goodness sake?
Just why?
Honest to goodness, do you really give that much of a damn that you look into other poster's previous posts?

I'm sorry but I find that to be a ridiculous thing to do. I wouldn't dream of it.
In any case, so what. Is nobody allowed an opinion on any new situation because of other things?
I find that to be ludicrous.

It's not a court of law. It's an Internet website. Yes, certain rules must be followed. I get that and I try to obey them.
I can't imagine myself giving as much of a toss about other people's posts that I'd trawl their history, though.

But you do you.

Morethanalover · 30/08/2026 14:26

You know that is a fair comment.
Can't argue with that.

Last word though…

Pinkchickenwine · 30/08/2026 14:38

Morethanalover · 30/08/2026 14:13

Yes. It's acceptable because nobody's a Saint 100% of the time. People are flawed.
If this was a pattern of behaviour it would be different but it is not.

What more do you want me to say?

Suddenly bow down to your greater wisdom?

I won't so for the love of whatever, please stop replying to me.

Imagine thinking a 4 year old child hearing his father tell his mother to fuck off, because he wanted a glass of milk!

Honestly the way some raise their children.

But it’s acceptable to tell your partner to fuck off in front of your child, because it’s all about tone! Your values are seriously skewed!

I think if you come on a post where a new mum is struggling with a DH who is behaving badly and declare that she is the one who has a problem then it’s not unreasonable for a poster to point out that you’re position is unusual due to your own relationship issues.

The fact that you’re fixated on the OP being in the wrong and arguing with everyone who is giving sensible advice is odd

It's weird in my opinion to look at another poster's history.
Insulting too. Oh you can't have an opinion on anything because of X, y, z.

I don't even know what the heck's she's on about.

Pinkchickenwine · 30/08/2026 14:06

Morethanalover · 30/08/2026 14:01

@Pinkchickenwine you have no idea how I parent.
Sorry, I forgot to say this in my previous reply.
So no personal attacks, OK. They're not allowed.

Maybe, but they're attacking the post not the poster.
They're not dredging up my posts from the past like you are.

You’ve agreed that you may well tell your partner to fuck oof in front of children, you’ve says it was acceptable to choose to deny a glass of milk instead of water, why punish an unwell 4 year old!

It’s about tone? So a 4 year old going to school and saying fuck off is fine if his tone is ok?

Your parenting is very seriously off, if you can in anyway justify this man’s actions.

Hopefully you’ll realise that and stop accepting and giving out this type of behaviour, because unless you yourself act like this, I cannot understand you saying it’s acceptable.

Yes, we know OP had forgiven her DH, long may that not last and she’s expects and gets better treatment, or leaves him.

Yeah. I can justify his actions because to my mind it's no big deal.
What more do you want me to say?

People bicker. So what?

Insulting me won't change that.
And if you want me to stop replying to you stop replying to me.

I'm not going to change my mind.

If you want to express outrage, express it to the OP.

Not that I'm suggesting you do that at all, absolutely not, however, expressing outrage at another poster over their take on a situation is pointless.

I'm not ever going to agree with you so just agree to disagree and leave it be.

The OP has imo quite correctly clearly ignored the advice given by most on this thread.

I've not 'hijacked' anything.
That's a ridiculous comment.

I think this is a great site but a lot of fun that is poked at it does come from people shouting 'ltb' over the slightest issue. Like this one here.

It really is that you must have the last word.

In my opinion you’re seriously over invested in this thread and determined to have the last word!

You’re an embarrassment!

I know the DH and OP have made it up, you’re like a stuck bloody record!

Go and have a lie down!

Oh do calm down.

@Morethanalover you've hijacked a thread from a woman asking for advice and support for some pathetic attempt to have the last word and creating arguments that simply didn't need to be there.

This is the reason people take the piss out of Mumsnet. What an embarrassment.

It’s almost lunch time in our house 😂

Telling you to fuck off and refusing an unwell toddler milk isn’t ok but sounds like you’re sorting things out.

It is not my parenting style, no.

It might be others. A child not getting the drink it wants at the exact time it wants it is not the end of the world.

The dh did not actively stop the OP from getting a drink of milk, did he?
Like he absolutely forbade it.
Now that would be cause for concern. Yes I see that it would be.

In my opinion, the whole incident is a storm in a teacup.

The OP and her dh have made it up now.

Obviously people can continue to post but there's no point arguing with me about it.
I'm not the OP.

I'm not advocating arguing with the OP at all but surely if you are going to argue with anyone it should be her, not me.

I think that it's good that she had ignored what I consider to be the more over the top reactions on this thread.

He was denied the drink he wanted, whilst under the weather, is that your parenting style, because you don’t want to get up at a reasonable time?

Poor parenting IMO, but most of us are better than that, as this thread shows.

6.30 am is very early. But a lot of kids do wake up at this unearthly hour time. You need to take turns getting up.

I would have just got up with them as well but your DH is allowed to have a different opinion and was trying to get them back to sleep, you probably shouldn't have undermined that. Obviously the way he spoke to you was unacceptable.

Why bother trying to get them 'back to sleep' when it's a normal time to get up. Why cant he have milk when he wants it.
