Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

Meh...I don't even think about it and I'm never sick so...🤷‍♀️

Mrsm43 I couldn't eat in a garden centre in the evening because it was closed. The Prince was dog friendly, the others were only dog free in the expensive restaurants. What about people who want a dog free drink with friends?
LuckyHazelFox All dogs are unhygienic therefore a clean person wouldn't have one. This is why this problem exists. Clean people don't want to eat near dogs and dig owners just don't understand that. I wouldn't go to any of my friend's houses who have dogs but accept that that is their home and their choice. Having dogs in eating establishments is not the choice of many but unfortunately entitled dog owners seem to have won the battle at present.

Exactly so all this reference to licking dog parts, saliva etc is just dramatic pearl clutching. Guide dogs are no different.

The truth is that they wouldn’t like it, but they can’t exactly complain about guide dogs. And in reality most of us don’t come across them very often so it isn’t really something to worry about.

A guide dog being permitted doesn't explain how people are comfortable sitting next to one, given dogs are unhygienic. This OTT outrage happens on every dog thread.

Guide dogs have to be there, and they are fairly limited in number. Not comparable to dogs in general being there in large numbers.
Dog owners are usually clean, I hope, but it's fair to say dogs are not the most hygienic of pets. I can't think of another popular pet which is wired to enjoy eating its own faeces and vomit. (Disclaimer : I like dogs and know they can be trained not to do this.)

Are guide dogs not unhygienic? I wonder how many of you would feel about having one of those heroes lay on a restaurant floor. Of course, you don't have a problem with their hygiene. Funny that.

Oh and telling dog owners they are unclean says more about you.

Also, The Lamb Inn, The Tite Inn, Burford House, The Prince of Burford are all either dog free, or have dog free areas.

A lot of it is laziness. Some owners just cba to walk their dogs so they think a 10min wander to a cafe where their poor pet is shoved under a table or gets tripped over suffices.

It doesn't.

Walk your dogs, a tired exercised dog is able to be left alone for periods of time. If it barks and whines it just needs wearing out and by that no I don't mean sat under a table at your local Costa!

Dogs don’t even like all of these pub/cafe visits. It’s the owners - no dog wants to go to the pub especially. They don’t even drink! I hate it when their owners say “he’s being friendly”. No fuck off I don’t want dog friends. The dog merely wants food or a sniff of something. They can’t make friends. I hate dog owners in these places more than the dogs. Just leave them at home like during the 80s/90s

How is it 'entitled' if the business actively welcomes dogs? It'd be entitled to expect dogs to be welcome with no indication that they actually are... but if the business clearly says dogs are welcome then... they are.

I'd actually rather there weren't dogs everywhere, every less than impeccably trained pet dog is a risk to my assistance dog...but I just can't see how it is entitled of anyone to expect a dog to be welcome at a business that says they welcome dogs.

Go to a restaurant that doesn't allow dogs then! There are plenty about.

This sounds much healthier. It's ridiculous for people to call this cruel when your dogs are living with work to do & a loving & natural environment. It's much crueller for dogs to be forced into spaces not designed for them and treated like human children rather than animals.

I love cat cafes! I wouldn't worry about this..The cats live there, they're for people who can't have cats at home and pay to hang out with them. I doubt there will be a big movement of people bringing their own pet cats into ordinary cafes & restaurants : if there were, that would be wrong.

The issue dog owners don't understand when they are ranting and telling people to go to dog free places is that there are hardly any places now that are dog free. As mentioned in my previous post in Burford last week there were about 7 or 8 pubs and a similar number of cafés. All were dog friendly and none of them had dog free areas inside. I couldn't eat out once on my holiday but dog owners don't care about that. Having a dog is your unhygienic choice, why should clean people have to suffer too?

I agree. We have dogs. Ours like most of the farmers dogs around us, live in the barns. Totally normal. They can be left with no separation anxiety at all. They are fed, exercised and we love and play with them. In fact I’d imagine they get more exercise and stimulation than most house dogs do.

If I admitted to anyone who lived in town that our dogs lived in a barn, I’d be lynched. Dogs are not people.

Also lockdown puppies would have been used to owners being there all the time.

In the summer outdoor areas are often fully occupied by non dog owners!

Yes, there are some dog free options. It's very likely easier if you're in a larger area, fir one, to find options for both.

I think Gail's is also dog free and Asian places tend to be.

Yes, I don't recognise this idea that non dog-friendly places are the exception rather than the rule. In our experience, dog-friendly places have been much harder to find. Our current dog is much happier staying in the car than our other dog (both rescues, both with their individual backgrounds and issues) so it's been nice not to be restricted in where we can eat!

Then OP go to the plethora of places where they don’t accept dogs. Don’t whine about the ones that do, they are businesses and have decided that they want dog owners business. John Lewis for example has also made that decision to accept dogs, it’s a commercial decision made by a business. Blows my mind the amount of threads on this topic.

There are plenty of dog free places. It's easy, you call them up and ask whether they allow dogs. If yes, you find somewhere that doesn't, rather than moaning about it.

That's not true, though. Do your research, select a dog free venue. Every Weatherspoons, KFC, Burger King, Subway, Pizza Express for a start.

It is (quite reasonably) fairly rare for dogs to be allowed inside restaurants. Cafés in well known dog walkkng areas tend to be more welcoming, but that's because we provide them with year round custom unlike the fair weather walkers.
