These were his words this morning. We live abroad in a place where a lot of people are coming to live, escaping the uk and America. He says with everything on the news, the way it's going and what the people coming to where we are tell him, that we'd be mad to return. Is he being realistic? I want to return to be with family desperately and have a strange feeling that I need to do it soon Would we be mad to return at this time? If yes, then when!

It's one thing to say you like living in the UK and set out the reasons. Repeated boasting about one's own good fortune, coupled (in the case of that particular pp) with jibes at those describing less fortunate circumstances and the occasional insinuation that if someone is less fortunate it's their own fault, is something else. And it does point to a person needing to check their privilege as far as I am concerned.

Look at the actual statistics. London is one of the safest big cities in the world.

It's literally published for free online.

Whether you think the economy, jobs and tax is going to be ok, that's another matter.

I personally don't like it but understand it could be worse.

Just read in the news about a 14 year old girl being raped by 2 Afghans on a train from Kent to London.

In what other country (aside from some seriously f*cked up place that is 400 years behind the rest of us) do you need to warn your children about being gang raped on a train, or stabbed when walking down the street?

Whilst it is very very far from ideal that illegal immigrants are the cause of a frightening level of sexual assaults and rapes in this country at the moment, and that simply can not be allowed to continue, it is also happening everywhere in Europe. Two different things can be (and are) true

1.Horrific crimes happen everywhere: committed by people of all nationalities and from all parts of society.

2.Some nationalities (notably Afghan, Sudanese and Eritrean) have rates of conviction for sexual assault 20 times that of British-born men. So letting in each of those men poses a risk 20 times that of one of our existing British men.

It would be a bit silly and childish to think that every immigrant will attack someone, or that no British man will. No one is suggesting that.

It's a question of incidence across the population. Admitting men with those nationalities directly results in many more women and children being attacked than if those men were not admitted.

And that's not OK.
