Don't know what topic you'd put this under but picture this scenario - one bathroom in the house, husband is in the shower, you're suddenly desperate for the toilet - what do you do?

A wee fine, if it was a poo I’d wait for him to get out of the shower. Can’t imagine I’d be that desperate if I hadn’t needed it before he went in that couldn’t wait a few minutes.

IAmNotMyJobTitle · 16/08/2026 20:14

Wee but not poo. We’re empty nesters so pretty much never close the bathroom door.

LoveThemToVits · 16/08/2026 20:14

My DH wouldn't cope.

Evaka · 16/08/2026 20:13

Never would i ever poo in front of someone but wee is fine, just pull the curtain right across.

We don't care about this in our relationship and wouldn't feel the need for the person in the shower to turn their back or get out. But everyone is different.

I agree for a pee, I even will go in and wee if he’s in the bath and chats😂 but I draw the line at anyone having a turd while their partner is also in there 🤢

MiceSpiders · 16/08/2026 19:56

DH can wallow in the bath for hours so occasionally I can't wait for a wee, but I knock and ask and the bathroom layout means he can't see me on the toilet from the bath unless he craves his neck which he wouldn't. For a shower I'd wait, I also wouldn't want him coming in while I shower unless it was urgent, if I'm shaving my legs with a foot up on the edge it feels a bit much to be observed

That is "Doing a Father Stone" if you have a dump (Father Ted )

Flushing the loo when they're mid-shower wpuld depend on hoe chintzy they're were being .

40notouttoday · 16/08/2026 19:52

I can't remember the last time I managed a shower without my husband or one of my (small) kids coming in. I've just ordered a lock.

Cookiesunderthesofa · 16/08/2026 19:49

Total non issue for us. Neither of us would bat an eyelid.

but I guess if one or the other is bothered you have to ask them to come out if you are desperate beyond waiting. When you gotta go you gotta go

EveningSpread · 16/08/2026 19:48

If it was just a wee I’d knock and explain, then go in and have a wee. He wouldn’t care.

I wouldn’t poo in front of him. I’d tell him “can you get out the shower pronto, please, I need to poop, right now!!”

I’m sure both have happened. We’re not bothered about things like that.

My DH has seen me give birth… really don’t think this is something I’d be worried about

Lucky you. Mine had to be helped out because he felt faint.🙄😆

MadCattery · 16/08/2026 19:47

DH and I always shower together. Our shower is large enough and we had it retrofitted with a central "rainfall" shower head. I use the toilet before, or if necessary, after.

Tiggy321 · 16/08/2026 19:45

3 bathrooms in the house but in our en-suite I often take a wee when he is in the shower ! But I won’t let him use the loo if I am in the shower 😆

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 16/08/2026 19:43

Another for pee only
Anything else most definitely isn't a spectator sport.

Unless the chewin the fat sketch
Man desperate for toilet.
House holder obliges.

MaryFromGlasgow · 16/08/2026 19:43

Family of 6 with one bathroom. Yes I would. We have an over bath shower with a glass screen but installed a shower curtain on a rail as well for privacy so somebody can be in the bath whilst somebody nips in for a wee/brush teeth etc. We make it work.

Any1ForTennis · 16/08/2026 19:36

In 26 years, my DH has seen me sitting on the loo once. And, that was only because I was mid flow and spotted cockroaches running round my feet resulting in much squeeling😂.

(On holiday in Cyprus btw).

petermaddog · 16/08/2026 19:36

just dont flush

Amberlynnswashcloth · 16/08/2026 19:31

I once had a cat who always seemed to need the litter box just as I settled into a nice relaxing bubble bath and I'd have to get out to deal with the smell. It would remind me of that so, no.

Bitzee · 16/08/2026 19:28

No not really ok unless you’re a toddler with no indication you needed it previously and no ability for hold it for 10 minutes. If you only have the one bathroom and he says he’s going for a shower do you not think to pop in first if you need it, and if you didn’t need it at all then surely it cannot be so urgent you can’t hold it until he’s done… If it is then I think you need to make a GP appointment as it’s not normal and could indicate a medical issue. Not because there’s anything gross about having a wee (poo is another matter) but really because it’s a poor reflection on quiet time and boundaries.

Since when does being intimate with someone strip you of any autonomy or privacy the rest of the time?

It doesn’t but it’s a quick wee , you’ve seen everything why would it worry you

Teenagerantruns · 16/08/2026 19:26

Quick wee absolutely would not care, we do wee in fount of each other, anything else definitely not , unless l suppose onset of sickness bug when you definitely have to go.

Marroon · 16/08/2026 19:23

tinyspiny · 16/08/2026 19:10

Nor do we , we have three toilets and it still wouldn’t bother me if he came in whilst I’m in the bath / shower or vice versa . Presumably this is a person you are intimate with .

60degreecycle · 16/08/2026 19:22

Pee in front of each other, no bother, so I'd knock and head in if I couldn't wait, ie I'd just come home and was bursting.

Poo, absolutely no way, never, not happening either way round.

5128gap · 16/08/2026 19:19

Even in a one bathroom household there's never a 'need' to use the toilet with someone in the shower, as I'm sure most would agree if it was their dad or adult son in there rather than their DH.
Whether a couple 'want' to do it is entirely up to the two of them. If they're both OK with it, its reasonable. If one of them isn't, its not.
