To find the temperature today unbearable?

YANBU. I'm in West London and I found Thursday (13th) and Friday (14th) the worst days by far of the heatwaves we've been having. My bedroom was 32 degrees on Thursday night and I think I got about 3 hours sleep. Today the thermometer is saying 27 degrees which although still a bit too warm for my liking, feels positively fresh after 32 degrees!

Today was the worst. Went into London and literally dripped sweat even in an air conditioned restaurant. It was horribly humid

I'm in a flat; it was 26 degrees in here when I woke up and is now 29 at midnight.

I think there was a thread yesterday or day before saying how genuinely worried people were about coping, during the last 2 months I've had to make life changing decisions and deal with illness and job loss, whilst watching my elderly dog suffering with the heat and being unable to cope myself. Its really affected my mental health and I feel like I have flu all the time. Some people will deal with it better than others, but I am worried about next year, the year after and so on.

You can't enjoy feeling ill and listless because it's too fucking hot and humid.

It's already a lot cooler in Yorkshire. It didn't get above 18 all day and it's 12 now. It's going to be even cooler over the coming week. Thank goodness I'm going away the week after.

My main worry is that I've become a bit meh about the days I'd usually have enjoyed. Like when it's mid-late 20s. It's depressing when it just rains for days and you constantly have squelchy work boots.

Yep. It's been between 38 - 41 here today in central Europe. I am sick of it. At an open air cinema tonight and even with the sunset it was still 34. No aircon allowed in offices, you feel like you can barely move without sweat down your back and on your scalp. It's planned to storm tomorrow and I feel like dancing outside in bra and pants. Will get down to 28 this coming week. I cannot wait.

I handle the cold a lot better tbh. For the last decade I've spent about half my day outside on construction sites so I'll only need a jacket when it gets into single digits. I just wear a jumper until it gets below maybe six degrees.

With the heat I think you just get used to it. The air con on the mixer I sometimes drive broke down during the first heatwave and they had to order the part. I worked for three consecutive days in a 37°C cab while wearing heavy trousers and a long sleeved shirt (due to working with cementitious materials and hydrochloric acid). I'm self employed so it would've cost me £200+ a day to stay home as I obv don't get annual leave.

After that I found that anything up to about 32C didn't really bother me unless I was doing something physical like using a concrete breaker or hammering off buildup with a lump hammer.

And we cant all move further north can we?

No air con. Very old farmhouse which until this summer was cool inside but even that hasn't worked this year.

It's been 40°c daily for weeks now. Probably about 12 of them. Every time I see a forecast our area is the reddest of the red colourings again.

We had one thunderstorm with zero rain which I'd never experienced before, then back to scorching the next day

Anyway it will soon be autumn. Keep on keeping on.

Never been as glad to live in Northern Ireland! My adult DC have arrived to be cool! One DD said as she drove north it was great to see the grass turning greener! My other DD who lives in Wiltshire had a baby 3 months ago and they have had to endure 5 heatwaves since then!

Ive got window restrictors at the insistence of the housing association. Black cladding and the front door of the flat is a fire door so no ventilation no gaps allowed.

Much nicer today under cloud in my part of East Anglia. Think it was 25C but nearly 10c cooler than yesterday! Agree it was more humid though.

I think I’ve acclimatised to the higher temperatures a bit now but definitely need rain.

My flat was last at a comfortable temp on the 15th June Its been one long heatwave in the Sanctuary sauna

I have a cold bath including washing my hair at midnight. Needs must in a top floor flat

I have found it awful today and we’re on the South Coast. The house just won’t cool down.

I’m just curious and not trying to be shitty but do you really need to put makeup on to go out for a drive to cool off in the air con? I did it in my nightie last night although that was at 11pm so I doubt anyone saw me!

I moved to south west France 5 years ago and this year has been unbelievable.

I have 5 of those picnic ice packs in the freezer, and I circle through them all day and night, I have one here in bed now. It just cools my temp down enough to cope. On my forehead, on my wrists, back of the neck, between thighs, anywhere I can depending on sitting or lying down. Sweet relief.

Its like having a permanent hot flush at the moment, head to toe in a film of sweat and the only relief is for 10 mins after a shower.

I am fed up taking cool showers as often as I can . I wrap up in a sheet afterwards and don't dry off . It helps me to sleep. Hair is probably splitting as it is always wet and tied up in a bun . And can't even use the small paddling pool because of hosepipe ban .

They're obviously not the same people, you absolute wind up merchant, and you know it 😁.
I love the heat, don't mind the cold and despise the rain - I'll only complain about the rain.

I used to absolutely love summer. Until this year. I'm also in London and it is absolutely unbearable. Headaches, can't cook, can't eat, just fed up of the humidity and constant lethargic feeling.

I will never ever complain about the cold or rain ever again. I will truly enjoy the colder wetter months. So there's a silver lining.
