To think my neighbour is selfish tw*t for lighting a fire

Just seen on the town's main face book page someone is having fireworks tomorrow night.

Just what we need, when we haven't had rain for weeks and weeks and the place is like a tinder box, is things being set alight and flying off into the air.

I feel fortunate that this is happening in the part of the town furthest away from where I live.

Obviously, feel very sorry for this person's poor neighbours.

Just out of curiosity, I searched for the term 'fire pit' on X tonight and it brought up loads of tweets from men (nearly all seemed men) hurling abuse at Andy Burnham and ranting about not being told what to do by 'leftists' and that they'll be lighting their firepits and barbecues and having bonfires every night in defiance of the ban. Just seems that a vast swathe of the UK population seems recently to have acquired the mentality of the worst type of knuckle-dragging Ulster loyalist.

The problem is the millions of people who do not have common sense!

I mean, my DH & I have common sense not to start fires in this weather, despite the fact we didn't receive the alert, but sadly there are a ridiculous amount of people with no common sense!

It does say to avoid any activity that could cause a fire. It would have to be someone that was as thick as shit to not be able to understand that includes normal bbqs, gas bbq, camping stoves, candles and any other flame. Unfortunately going by some of the responses I've seen on here tonight thick as shit seems to be fairly common.

YABU as he may not have got the alert. I only know about the alert from MN. My DH & I do not get Gov alerts.

He may have thought as it's contained in a firepit it would be safe, some people just don't think. I wouldn't call him selfish over it...unless of course he ends up burning down all the neighbouring houses with it.

Sounds very similar to my twatty neighbours a few years ago in a heatwave. He managed to burn down 3 boundary fences and large amounts of trees. He’s lucky no one’s house went up too.

As they were council tenants they didn’t have to pay for anything. The rest of us were left to pay for the damage to our own boundaries. Must have cost the council a chunk of money to pay for all the trees to be cut down and made safe too. Wanker.

Get a group of other neighbours together including a few burly males and go around and "have a word."

The alert said to avoid disposable barbecues. As soon as I saw the alert my cynical side thought that some numpties will now go out of their way to do something involving fire.

I have lost family members who were volunteer fire fighters here in Australia. Your neighbours are the worst. Can you call the police for this? (We can when we have fire bans)

To be fair the warning explicitly chose not to say anything about barbecues, and so it’s not an unreasonable assumption to think there is no issue with having a BBQ.

They could very easily have said “including avoiding barbecues”.

But, a lot of places have a hosepipe ban...

We had someone on our local fb page not long after the alert who had lit a fire and him and all his idiot mates laughing about it." Oh at least it's contained". I did comment along the lines of what kind of selfish twat lights a fire when it's 30 degrees, his poor neighbours never mind the risks to life. Apparently i'm a misery. I'd rather be miserable than burnt to a crisp.

No, you cant always contain fire. One spark from a fire is all it takes. The advice is to avoid any activity that could start a fire.
