They clearly went out of their way to say disposable barbecues when they obviously could have just said barbecues. Your personal opinion about what people should be doing is your own.

Well, there was a post on here from someone who turned the oven off in her own house after getting the alert.
How long until we get people rant on about not using any electricity at all in case it sparks and causes a flame and the emergency services to come out?

Yep, I have already seen pics of people with BBQ on local FB groups. Taken before the alerts went out, as it was broad daylight 🙄
A lot of people miss the Covid restrictions, and it shows.

It explicity says to avoid any activity that could start a fire. I guess the only mistake they made was assuming that the general public weren't all as thick as shit.
We have had replies on threads saying gas bbq fine, home bbq fine, use a camping stove instead. I genuinely cant understand replies like this. Nobody needs to be lighting any kind if fire. It should have to be spelled out for every possible scenario.

I would call the Fire brigade and explain your neighbour has started a fire in the garden and you are concerned this will spread to neighbouring houses. I think the Fire Service might come round and give your twat of a neighbour some advice.

I have seen two fires in the past 24 hours,one a garden shed,destroyed 6 gardens and one person hospitalised with burns,second I have no idea what happened,saw the fire engine and hose,property in the country,that one hasn’t even made the local FB pages.Presumably all was well.
Before yesterday I can’t remember the last time I saw a fire.

It’s clear that they don’t mean people’s back garden barbecues. They would have said so, and they didn’t. I’m not sure why people think it isn’t clear? They specifically say in the alert that “disposable barbecues” and fire pits are the problem, and on the government site they say you have to make sure your household bbq is fully extinguished. So they want people to be careful but they know banning bbqs entirely won’t be adhered to.

Some twat(s) at the back of our houses were letting off fireworks,
They managed 3 & then we heard loads of angry shouting.
I presume the neighbours/parents sorted them out.

I really cannot believe how dense & full of themselves/insecure some people are.
They can't understand a warning, think it doesn't apply to them & it hurts their feelings as they think they're being told off.

Is there no fire ban?. I'm in WA we are in the height of wild fire season..We generally get a fire ban when the risk goes up to medium. No campfires, no open burning etc. Massive fines

If it's a standard BBQ of the type you keep in the garden, you're golden. It's only the disposable ones we've been warned against. This has been a point of discussion over dinner, as we have a family BBQ planned for Sunday afternoon!

Yep - absolute bell end and also goes to show how utterly pointless the government alert was. Clearly no amount of government alerts is enough for this guy.

Our neighbours had a fire during the World Cup and a fire engine showed up to have a little chat with them.

Not suggesting anyone call them now for anything less than an emergency - this was before it got really bad - but they would rather get the fire put out than deal with it when it's bigger.

I do understand why people are annoyed by hosepipe ban …ie golf courses are exempt etc but ignoring BBQ ,fireworks ban is on another level of stupidity 🤦‍♀️

My late Aunts husband is the kind of arsehole who would do this.

On receiving the alert he would very much be of the mindset that "no one is telling me what to do" and would light a fire just to prove (to whom?!) that he could.

Pathetic behaviour. But then he has always been a pathetic posturing individual who thinks more of himself than he should.

This happened to my parents. On a perfectly normal summer day. Not mad dry summer like this year. Conifer Hedge lit and was making its way up to the house. It was a big garden. Think 70m/ 80m long. By the time the fire brigade got it under control it was within 10 metres of the house.

Yup! Fires warnings are woke type and it’s just summer…
