Ok so how many people, after receiving a government alert about wild fires asking them not to have fires in their garden, would then in fact go against that and light a big F off fire in their garden, well that would be my next door neighbour! We all live in close proximity in terraced houses and my neighbour thinks it’s a good idea to light a fire. The fact the fire is (for now) contained in a make shift fire pit makes no difference, I mean it’s twa**ish behaviour right?

Yup!! Same fir people round here using hosepipes to wash their cars. Just because we haven't had a hosepipe ban..... yet!

I’m meant to be going to my friends tonight for one. If it’s illegal I’m not going, I don't want the police turning up.

I've spent an hour on hold to 101 this morning for something urgent but non emergency. The call taker apologized for the delay & said they were under immense pressure due to the nuisance calls about people having bbq's

They cannot do anything as it is not an offence.

If it is spreading out of control or an emergency then call 999 for fire brigade

Just seen on the town's main face book page someone is having fireworks tomorrow night.

Just what we need, when we haven't had rain for weeks and weeks and the place is like a tinder box, is things being set alight and flying off into the air.

I feel fortunate that this is happening in the part of the town furthest away from where I live.

Obviously, feel very sorry for this person's poor neighbours.

I would seriously report that on 101… that’s how the moorland fires near Manchester started.

Just out of curiosity, I searched for the term 'fire pit' on X tonight and it brought up loads of tweets from men (nearly all seemed men) hurling abuse at Andy Burnham and ranting about not being told what to do by 'leftists' and that they'll be lighting their firepits and barbecues and having bonfires every night in defiance of the ban. Just seems that a vast swathe of the UK population seems recently to have acquired the mentality of the worst type of knuckle-dragging Ulster loyalist.

I bet they all voted Brexit, are climate change deniers and believe in the Covid vaccine conspiracy. Probably have AI pictures of lions on their profile pics and are very “patriotic”.

I worked in the fire service control room for 20 years. ALWAYS call the fire brigade to report a fire. If you call the police they will call the fire brigade and all you’ve done is delay the reporting. In busy times which we call spate conditions calls are prioritised and others are queued. The caller would be questioned to determine the risk. They may send an officer out to assess or an appliance. Please never think because they are busy you won’t call and add to that burden. Fire can and does spread really quickly. We had a call to a garden fire which was 2 minutes from the fire station. By the time the appliance had arrived it had spread to the fence, the shed and then the roof of the house. What started as a one appliance incident that would have been dealt with in minutes ended up being a lengthy incident involving multiple appliances and officers.

That's makes sense, in these extreme and exceptional conditions one wonders ...

Have you not seen the wildfire in Birmingham? Terraced houses. Fire spreads terrifyingly quickly.

It explicity says to avoid any activity that could start a fire. I guess the only mistake they made was assuming that the general public weren't all as thick as shit.
We have had replies on threads saying gas bbq fine, home bbq fine, use a camping stove instead. I genuinely cant understand replies like this. Nobody needs to be lighting any kind if fire. It should have to be spelled out for every possible scenario.

I would call the Fire brigade and explain your neighbour has started a fire in the garden and you are concerned this will spread to neighbouring houses. I think the Fire Service might come round and give your twat of a neighbour some advice.

The fire brigade & police are asking you not to do this. It is placing a strain on their services & risks a delay to emergency responses

It's not a crime & not an emergency so there is nothing police can do if the fire is under control.

It's an environmental nuisance which goes through the council.

I think they should have gone further & made it an offence but thats not straightforward or quick to do

They will probably look at passing laws like in Australia that make it an offence when they issue a 'no fire' mandate.

People calling 101 are putting a strain on the service & that's the advice they are giving out.

If the fire is out of control or spreading then 999 straight away.

No as it's not a crime & not an emergency.

Our local police have put social media posts asking people not to tie up the 101 & 999 services.

It would be a complaint via the council.

All you can do is speak to the neighbour and keep an eye on the hire & call 999 if it is getting out of control.

The yin hat brigade all turned the emergency alerts off because they wouldn't want to know about a nuclear attack so are therefore oblivious to the actual state of emergency

@Lentilcakes beyond selfish unless he has an exemption ...however he may also be helping to dsmpen down foliage fire risk.

The water companies mis management and lack of proper infrastructure investment has helped this massive hole we are in now.
