Please can anyone help with these results as can’t get through to GP and panicking

Never heard of lups corpus, have you had an infection recently, why did you need the blood test. Have you got any other blood results, have you had a cold or flu.

My ferritin used to be 2! Iron tablets didn’t work, only went up when I got pregnant. Strange

why did you have the blood test?
if the low ferritin is ongoing, has your GP requested a FIT test (stool sample to detect blood), or tested for coeliac disease?

Ferritin of 18 is within the 'normal' range, so unless a GP is looking at your medical history or previous tests, it wouldn't flag further investigation

You should not have an iron infusion without medical advice based on your blood results and medical history. Too much iron can be dangerous.

Non medical staff should never give out blood results, or any other result, especially over the phone. Either log into your nhs app or ring until a doctor confirms your results.

I recently went on holiday to Turkey, saw a clinic opposite the hotel, asked them if they did iron IV’s, I had one within 3 hours for £90 🙌🏼 felt better almost straight away but could’ve done with another soon after given it was Venofer which they prefer to administer lower doses more frequently than other brands, if you go abroad anytime soon I would ask around for pricing.

Are there any units? It's definitely a typo, haemophilia can't be "measured". It us be either haematocrit or mean corpuscular haemoglobin, it's within normal range if it's the latter.

Yes you can but if there is an underlying reason for the deficiency, for example inability to absorb b12, then oral supplements will have limited effects

With the greatest of sympathy to your position, this is why laboratory results should never be given directly to the patient without a doctor to interpret results and factor in patient's presenting symptoms. As a state registered laboratory scientist (not UK so rules may differ) we aren't allowed release results directly to patients as it can cause unnecessary stress. I hope you have managed to get through to your gp. Also as a side note just because a lab result is "within normal limits" doesn't mean that patient wouldn't benefit from intervention

You can buy both iron and B12 supplements very cheaply without your Gps consent!

Actually the lower values for ferritin start at 11so you are at the lower end of the range! Look at your diet and there are plenty of food stuffs that will increase it naturally!

Try the natural iron water supplement called Spatone, it's really good and better absorbed.

My ferritin went up to 70 from 11 within 4 months, but I did need to do double the dose ie two sachets a day, so it was a bit more expensive.

Look at the NHS app for your actual blood test results.

You may not need a iron transfusion but they may need to look at iron absorption. This is what my DD is being investigated for as iron tablets are not helping.

OP, you’ll be able to see your detailed results via the NHS app. If you share them here (if you want to) that could help to clear up what the tests were.

Do you have/use an NHS App at your GP Surgery where you can log in and see results, appointments etc online? It's so useful instead of having to ring the surgery for results/information shared by receptionists. It's so much easier x

OP do you have a NHS account? Your full blood test results with be on there.

If you don't set one up a Nd you will be able to access them. And Google accordingly.

I think either you misheard or the receptionist had a brain fart and said the wrong word when reading your results back.

Can you not just go to the surgery and explain that you’re unable to get an appointment despite the GP asking to see you?

in April my Ferrtin was 4 and my HB was 109. I felt terrible.

We know the reason which is heavy bleeding. I was fobbed off with one iron tablet a day but decided to take 2-3 for the first couple of months.
I’ve now had a coil to stop the bleeding.
I’m now up to ferritin 21 and HB of 36.

Iron infusion referrals depend on the reason for the drop in levels but one thing I have noticed (working as a Medical Secretary) is that they don’t mess about with men, they get the infusion referrals easily whereas it seems to be more common with women to use tablets as it’s more ‘expected’. I suppose because of heavy periods.

Ive also noticed it varies between GP.

Haemophilia only affects males, so unless you have acquired haemophilia it’s not that. Acquired haemophilia is very rare and is serous so I’d expect the GP to be in touch about that asap.

The AI scaremongering is about as silly.

The AI can be wrong, so can every single website. And book. And person. And even doctor. And frankly, the AI is going to be right more times than the average non medical person posting anything on here, by a vast margin. But both can be wrong.

Nobody should be taking any medical advice, just looking at information and checking yourself to point in you in a possible direction to look. And as a result where it comes from is irrelevant. The only person to trust more would be a doctor, but it changes nothing because a doctor shouldn't be given that advice online and nobody claiming to be one should be trusted to be one.

Do you take then with Vitamin C to help absorption?

I certainly think we should be encouraged to report anything AI on health/medical threads.
