Do you think it will be like this next Summer? Was it like this last Summer?

It was hot at points last year but we also had regular spells of rain.

i was regularly mowing the lawn and neither mine nor anyone else's where I live looked like the barren wastelands that they do now.

Really? Just really?

Totally agree and also cant believe Andy Burnham isn't out there putting the climate crisis at the very top of his agenda, it will affect literally everyone in this country, everyone

I don't particularly remember last summer being as hot. I don't remember schools sending children home, or talk of it (which did happen a few years before).

But I do know that it was hot and dry because it has been harder to buy hay through the last winter as less grew.

It's odd the bits I don't remember and bits I do.

I can only surmise that you're up there, as the majority of the UK - especially England and Wales has been suffering horrendous heat since Mid May, and for many it has not been a nice summer!' It's been too hot to do anything for around 70% of the summer so far!

Indeed it's been 30 degrees Celsius for more than 40 days of the spring and summer, and there's been raging fires/wildfires, droughts/water shortages, and 3000 heat related deaths! It's been a battle just to put one foot in front of the other some days, and people in upper floor flats feel like they're living in hell.

And yes, it looks like long hot summers (with blasting heatwaves) are going to be the new normal! As has been said, it's very worrying to think that each year it may get worse and worse.

June here in Ireland wasn’t good but July’s weather has been great. August too so far has been fab. Not as hot as in the UK though, thankfully.

I'm in the SE and it's been boiling and I love hot weather. Im worried that every summer is going to be hotter than the previous summer and we are just going to boil.

Last year I don’t remember it being like this for so long. In London and it’s been horrific. It’s just so hot you can’t do anything. I don’t think I’ve opened my curtains for about 3 months. It was 36 today and it’s still 30 degrees in my house at 9.20pm. Going to fit some air con over the winter for next year.

I do think that we will get more hot summers. I do remember last summer been hot but i coped a lot better. It was warmer in March and April last year so i found it easier to adjust. It broke earlier too. We did get a day when it was 30 degrees in August but it cooled down at night. This summer has been hell. It didn't stop raining for months at the start of the year. Then it got really hot. I feel as though i have moved from the arctic to the tropics.

It's been way hotter this year but I don't know that we've had that awful heat/humidity with dense cloud cover like we had last year. To be fair, it's been sunny most days.

We've had a chat to our electrician and he's putting air con in when he can get stock (likely November) in our living room and bedroom. It's just too much for DH, he's got a heart issue and gets very tired at the best of times ... add in excess heat and he's just miserable.

The kids in leggings etc was because the weather broke when the schools broke up.

The fact that the op can't remember last summer indicates is wasn't that bad. Personally I avidly recall 76 and 05 and 2010...the first two because it was hot for ages not the odd period. 2010 because it rained all summer and I was a professional gardener and was continually wet

It has not been low 20s in the midlands over the summer. It’s been roasting.

I remember saying it had been a beautiful summer, and as I'm not a heat lover, I imagine it can't have been too bad! I think it's because the nights cooled down properly, which tbf they are mostly doing at the moment. It's only when it stays crazy warm overnight that I can't cope. I'm South Bucks, which I think is the hottest part of the country at the moment (outside London).

My husband’s a firefighter and they’re all generally saying this is the longest, hottest summer they can remember. There’s been wildfires before but not as relentless as this for as long as this.

For many years we went camping in the UK during the same week in August and it was always wet and miserable, often resulting in a early return home.
Our last camp was 2024, it was the best weather we'd ever had but we still did have some rain.
I used to joke that we bought the rain but I'm now beginning to wonder if I need to get the tent out again.

Hope so. I love the hot weather. We have fans and air con and a pool and it's been brilliant. Almost as good as the summer I was furloughed during covid. Embrace the heat as it won't last

It was hot last summer but iirc the heat broke earlier, so the school summer holidays were a bit cooler than this year.

It was delivery hot last summer, the records can’t be argued with. Plus my brother and family was over from Australia for 2 months. They couldn’t stand the hot weather because of the humidity here.

I do think this weather is here to stay. It’s incredibly scary. If it’s like this in the Uk, Europe and other parts of the world must be absolutely hell.

Wish the SE had been low 20s! Weather has been unusable as snow days are in some ways. Next week it’s not going to be cool - 26-28 most days where I am which in London for work means 30+ in the office

I bought an air con in 2023 and remember regretting it last year because I didn't use it and it takes up space. Nearly gave it away, now very glad I didn't!

So I'm pretty sure it wasn't hot enough last year to go to the effort of taking all the stuff off the top and attaching the hose.

I bet there will be plenty of hot summers to come though, variation is part of it.

I'm concerned about the winter too. It wasn't too bad here last year but terrible floods the year before.

Because this year has literally been hell down here

I say this as somebody who normally likes summer

i’ve been up north twice and it was lovely, but they said to me that it was much sunnier than usual. It was about 23 both times I went so it worked out really well.

Although to be honest, given the hell we have down here, I wouldn’t have been sorry to see some rain. Quite the novelty. I think we’re on the 60th day without it here.

Was it really? Has it not been beaten already this year?? Just looked through my camera and I have a fair few photos of my kids in jumpers and leggings in the summer holidays, they haven’t been worn this year since May! The week we went away (in the UK) was particularly miserable. Certainly no schools closed last year, I don’t remember many excessively hot (35 degrees) days last year unlike this year where they’ve been a weekly occurrence.
