Do you think it will be like this next Summer? Was it like this last Summer?

I thought after the last really hot summer we had..that we would have a bad winter..

I doubt the lengthy period without rain, but do think we will get days that fit the Met Office heatwave definition.

Isn’t that what everyone does on these threads? Someone upthread said it gets hotter next week, whereas in the SE it will cool significantly next week. Also mid last week was cool too, highs of 23 and 24 (lows of 12 and 13). Whenever there’s a heatwave - which is always no more than a few days - you get threads like this where people seem to talk about it like we’ve had 30 degrees or more for months. We haven’t. There have definitely been cooler, more pleasant spells in between the utter hell.

@Propagandalf I think you're confusing the weather trends over the entire country with what's happening in the particular area where you happen to live.

I'm fed up of hearing that last year was the hottest summer. Then this year is now the new hottest summer. Then ditto next year when again they say it's now the "new"-new hottest summer ever.

2006, 2017 and 2018 were the 3 summers I struggled with the most for the sheer length of their heat waves - 8 weeks each in those 3 years. July 2010 (4 weeks) was also a stinker.

Prob is it's not just Andy, it has to be the whole world.

I don't remember ever being so hot and I love the heat, but I am menopausal so...
I have a fan but I hardly ever use it, so I'm coping better than literally everyone around me.

It's 11pm here and it's 21c. Anyone with children must be wondering what they will have to face in their lives.

I'm in the Midlands too, and I haven't worn anything but shorts and vest tops for months now. I moved in April and I put most of my stuff in storage and I've not even got a jacket out . Apart from the odd day, it's been boiling hot every day. I know we are northern compared to London but our temps in the Midlands have definitely been higher than most of the country this year. No way has it been late teens.

Yes I think next year will be a scorcher again. I left the UK for a holiday last month, literally left the tail end of the first heatwave here to land in Ibiza where they was having the hottest summer they had had in many of the people's lifetimes, temperatures for that whole week we was there was in the high 30's with feel like temps in the 40s, the humidity was nothing like we get here it was worse. Humidity levels up to 98% most nights. Once we got back into the UK the mid twenties felt almost cold at times.
It isnt just the UK that is struggling with the heatwave.

I feel your pain loveheart! We went to west Wales beginning of school hols and it was bliss (mostly 20-23° with a lovely breeze)

I assume you dont live in the south in a city in a flat with skylights, where the temperature even at night hasnt dipped below 28 all summer (its 34 now at 22.30) ?

According the met Office we can expect our summers to be even warmer with prolonged heatwaves in future. Eek! Scary stuff.

This year so much worse than last year…but there was definitely a spell of intense heat last year too and we cancelled a UK holiday because of it. We have two dogs that we take with us and it would have been utterly miserable for them. 2024 also very hot periods, again I remember purely because of having to get up at silly time to dog-walk and cancelling days out.

I think this year has been hotter than last, but both years have seen little to no rainfall. I havent worn a jacketsince May. The ground is parched and grass is brown everywhere.
i love the heat and the weather, but would love some rain overnight and it to just cool down a couple of cegrees over night.

This summer has been horrendous here in London.
its been way too hot to do the nice, pleasant things of summer that folks are enjoying in the north, like sitting outside for dinner (no, way too hot), cycling, walking, enjoying cup of tea outside.

we’ve all spent way too much trying to keep doors and windows shut to keep the cool air inside the house.

we spent a week in Yorkshire end July and the weather was just perfect. A lovely mid 20s, nice and sunny with a breeze. Fabulous.

down here has been like living in a hot soup. Upstairs in my house where children are trying to sleep is currently over 30 degrees. Fans are on constantly.

for future summers we’re going to have to become more European to cope. Shutters on outside of windows, keeping everything shut up during the day. I can see us all working less in the middle of the day and then coming back to it in evenings etc.

I’ve quite enjoyed it! Also in the south-east. I seem to have acclimatised mostly. Was a bit too hot today though

All those saying what a lovely summer it's been - get ready to pay a shit load more for fruit and veg as crops are destroyed by this incessant heat.

Obviously, on a World level, climate change is incredibly worrying.
Obviously, for the farmers and food producers, it is an incredibly difficult time.

However, on a personal level I have loved this Summer.
Today was too hot, but over the weeks and months it has been lovely, knowing you can go out without an umbrella or jacket or jumper. I love the fact we've been able to plan outdoor events and be pretty confident they will be able to go ahead. I've loved sitting outside relaxing.

I'm in the East and it has been a lovely summer really. I have bitched about it in terms of getting too hot in my spare room when I'm at work, and I haven't enjoyed the tropical nights, but I've loved eating outside for dinner every night, and sitting outside in the morning with my tea. My town also has an outdoor pool which has been glorious. So I really can't complain overall.

I do, separately, recognise that the wild fires, insane levels of dryness, and increasing heat are a very worrying sign of things to come. And I would love a bit of rain, and I do really feel for the farmers. But personally, it has been lovely overall.

So 2024 we had quite a wet July and Scotland had a very wet August, England only had half the usual rainfall but temps in August were very marginally above the average August norm. July was under the average apart from a couple of very hot days at the end. It felt summery and pleasant but not hot and heatwaves.

2025 July had rain and thunder and quite warm temps but not relentless heat wave territory. August last year was dry, hot and sunny. Warmest summer on record, but we had more rainfall in July than we have this year.

I hope so. I am retired, I don't have to do anything or go anywhere. I live near woods so I can have a nice shaded jog/walk. Most days I have been cycling.

Much of this summer has been a huge struggle for many, especially in the South, Wales, and The Midlands! (I live in The Midlands, and some days have been brutal.) As I said you must live in Greenland if you think it's been a 'pleasant' summer!

Have you seen the news? The droughts, the fires, the 1000s of deaths from the heat, the strain on hospitals and emergency service, people passing out in the heat? Even on today's news there was a feature about nurses struggling with the heat and fainting in the hospitals. Millions of people are struggling!
