AIBU to think people following home trends such as glass lanterns regret this now

Those who have done extensions in their kitchens etc that put glass lanterns and/or floor to ceiling glass walls without any openings. They must have been regretting these plus other things that warm homes unintentionally.

I’ve never understood why people see these as a trend or a modern invention. The Romans had skylights! My parents’ house overseas had skylights since the 1960s.

Mid-century modern architecture is not a trend but a recognised architectural movement that holds the same value as Victorian or whatever else. I find it annoying how many English people think that the only classy thing to live in is an unmodernised Victorian house. Ridiculous and narrow-minded!

I know we’re all different and tastes change, but I loathe them, not because of the heat (although that’s bad enough), but because they’re often part of a disgustingly overblown kitchen extension (usually with giant leg bruising island) which has also turned a not very big garden into a pocket handkerchief.

Trying to find an interwar to mid century house that doesn’t have one of these carbuncles tacked onto it is almost impossible.

We've got 2 lanterns in the extension and 2 big sliding doors. It can get a little warm at times, but we are in the north west and frankly I can put up with a little stuffy and opening the windows for the up side of loads of light in the long dark winters....

People who blindly follow fashion need to give their heads a wobble. This is a small example compared with some of the idiotic fashions there have been. I wonder if some are a practical joke to see how gullible some people are.

I’ve got wide patios doors from living room to garden, so covering about a third of the width of the house. For the first time I’m actually glad our garden is north-east facing and they get very little direct sun! I’ve always loved the look of houses with the open plan extensions and multi-panel bifold doors running the width of the house, but would think twice about that now. Double height glass atriums must be challenging too.
