An update for anyone worried because they looked….

i couldn’t have looked more at it with the naked eye than I did. Constantly for an hour for as long as I could each time. I just totally totally forgot we weren’t supposed to. I am not stupid but my brain does seem to disappear sometimes atm- I’m 50. Anyway, my eyes have been checked and they’re fine. So are my dds who did the same. Yes, just luck and I will add this to the dozen or so other incredibly stupid things I’ve done in my life, but still smiling.

I wouldn't put money on that if I were you. I have damage to my eyes from the sun originating in my childhood in Africa. I've been through 30 years of eye tests subsequently when nothing was picked up, but the damage is definitely there.

Yeah completely fine. Exactly had to look as I doubt i will live to over a 100

I went out in the garden to water my plants, and peeked for less than a second. It was just glaring brightness.
I looked for longer back in 1999. We had used a pin hole in cardboard then. Shite then, and shite now 😂

We put together 6 pairs of sunglasses. We peeked quickly through that. They were so dark we could see anything else through them 😆.

I did a few times… it was a bit underwhelming to be honest. Maybe it would have been better with the specs

The only time anyone coukd have looked was during totality, which we didn’t have and were never going to have in the uk.
its a reminder how strong the sun is, that it can be 90% covered and still be hot and bright. ( the moon is far away, not like clouds which are only hundreds of feet away)
And yes, with the specs you could see everything.

If you missed a lot of your education then surely it’s even more important to listen to official advice rather than think you know better? You’ve already experienced the issues of disability too

Excuse me. I would rather be bad at English then be nasty. Mumsnet is for everyone people who english isn't their first language. People like me who missed a lot of education due to disability, people with dyslexia. Maybe be a little bit mindful that not everyone had the same life and upbringing as you and check your privelage.
