If someone has paid for a family members partner to attend a holiday, paid for their accommodation and activities - for this person to then say “I don’t want to go” a few days before. Is this rude?

They will never be invited again.

likeitshard · 11/08/2026 06:14

I’d let the room cost go as presumably it would have been the same regardless. I’d ask for the cost of activities to be covered and I’d cancel the ones just for the two of them.

Accommodation - non refundable as its per room rather than per person. (UK holiday park)

I think the activities can be cancelled with 24 hours notice for a full refund. But the whole booking will need to be cancelled and then rebooked for the remaining guests, as there isn’t the option to just cancel one person from the activity.

Surely if the booking is per room and it's a family member and their partner and the partner doesn't want to go, then the family member still goes without them and therefore needs the room anyway? So there won't be any difference in cost if the partner doesn't go.

YANBU. Flakey people are so annoying and it’s just ungrateful in this situation.

Anxiety maybe I like the thought of doing lots of things but when it actually comes to it I can't cope.

Anxiety is absolutely not an excuse to pull out of a fully paid for holiday!!

Have they offered to repay any money lost? What has the family member whose partner this is said - do they still want to go?

It’s beyond rude, this is why I will always teach my kids it is not okay to flake on plans you have agreed unless there is a genuine reason. Don’t feel like going? My answer is always tough luck you’re going.

Feeling excluded from a family spa day hurts, especially when coming from an inclusive background, even if the intent was just a sibling get-together.

Wrong thread I think.

That's panic. When people bow out of something that is imminent, they were usually afraid of going anyway but were talked into it.

Im hoping they weren’t “talked into it”. Although we love their company and get togethers there were no obligation or expectations for anyone (myself included) to attend.

What family spa day?

We aren’t going to a spa. No one has been excluded?

Very rude and I wouldn’t invite them again. Sometimes when we commit to something, we just have to get on and do it, even if we don’t feel like it at the time.
